Hi everyone, first time posting on here.

I currently ride a Kona Lanai 2008 hardtail with pretty much everything upgraded minus the seat. One of my upgrades involved replacing the stock, Suntour XCC-D 63mm forks with some Magura DM Durin Marathon 120mm forks.

The headtube angle is extremely slack, at 65.5 degrees. The type of riding I do involves cross country with some downhill sections, and I've found the whole feel of the bike to be pretty good. However, is this slack angle potentially dangerous for the frame in terms of stress etc? I've tried to find suggestions from Kona, but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated if you need any more info, pictures etc then feel free to ask! 🙂

rather than fork travel, you need to consider the difference in axle-crown of each fork.
the increased leverage may well rip the headtube off the frame.

obviously we need pics

Some images below. I'm not sure of the axle-crown of the XCC D, but the Magura is 493mm

Let me know if you need anything more specific. Bike is the blue one.

Chances are the frame was still designed with a 80-100mm fork in mind (I'd guess it's the same basic frame as the Fire Mountain which had a 100mm fork). I'd ride it.

Those 63mm forks were very long for their travel.

I reckon it'll be fine. Run a bit more sag to keep the geo reasonable.

That frame was designed around a 100mm fork but if you are happy about how it feels. I would ride it I would just check for cracks around the head tube after rides.
