Ride a Genesis Day One to/from work which includes several miles along a canal towpath which, oddly, walkers seem to think they have the right to use as well !

Need advice please on a decent quality bell which will fit on the 32mm diameter part of the handlebar.

Thanks.

Any will fit.

Get the loudest one you can find. Always test them in the shop. Several times. Staff love it.

Best bell we own between us cost £1.50 from a grubby back street LBS. Took him ages to find it in a box of random bits.

Go loud or go home.

Cheers but I was thinking more of a friendly warning than blasting them in to 2015!!

Thanks MoreCashThanDash but tried both local LBS but none to fit 32mm diameter and the ones I had bought previously for a hybrid lasted a few weeks.

Suggestions still welcome.

Cheers Bumper, think a 'Stem Spacer Bell' could be the way forward and I'll put that on the birthday list 🙂

Saw someone use one of those really loud ones on Friday afternoon, literally everyone within 50 yards on a busy street stopped and turned round. Then tittered, at the cyclist though, not the pedestrian he was trying to shame for stepping out.

Earlier in the day I was walking down an alleyway, I knew there was a cyclist without looking behind me cos of my cycling-spider sense, but the guy did ring his bell as he approached. It was one of those old school ring-ring ones. Have to say they sound a lot less intimidating than the 'ding' ones that shops all seem to sell.

I have a bar end bell (watch how say day it!) on my commuter, keeps it out of the way ( end of drops) but easily accessible.

That Alexander Graham looks good. Word of warning OP, don't go for the cheap option on those stem spacer jobbies. I did on my commuter and it's pretty annoying as it spins all over the place and not always where you think it will be. Think it might have been a BBB one that I got.

I have a BBB one (probably from CRC), which is attached securely enough with an o-ring. Works well enough and would stretch to a 35 mm handlebar. 'ping' stlye though. I prefer the sound of a 'ring-ring' but they rattle.

Yup, another vote for the spacer bell.

I've got one on my Vaya.

Great bit of kit IMHO.

I want to buy one of those stem spacer bells just because they're called an 'Alexander Graham Bell' and patter like this 😀

There's nothing like the strong, clear sound of a solid brass bell to announce your presence to inline skaters, stroller pushers and joggers.

Built to replace a 10mm 1 1/8" headset spacer, the Alexander Graham™ is a classy addition to your rig without sacrificing any of your precious handlebar real estate.

Bell? You don't want a bell, what you need is a Honka Hoota! Brings a smile to everyone's face!

I also have a BBB one and they are excellent. The O ring fitting is easy, copes with different diameters and is easily movable between bikes.

Any bike shop that sells road bikes will have some, because the tops of road bars are 31.8mm these days they have to have bells to fit when sold by law.

Like my trigger bell that I backed on Kickstarter. Lovely tone and I'd be very surprised if it didn't fit.
It's very small too.

I have both a Crane one and a Spurcycle.

Both stupidly expensive, neither an embarrassment on an otherwise good-looking bike. Both make a lovely sound.

🙂

In the end it had to be the 'Portland Design Works Alexander Graham Bell'. Still a bit pricey at £16 posted though the look of incredulity on my wife's face whilst I failed to explain it was a bargain compared to the $54 posted for a Spurcycle bell had to be seen ❗

Pingers don't always get recognised as bells, especially by oldies.

That spurcycle is rather nice, if I had to have a bell and it was a little cheaper than £30, i'd be tempted!
