Hi

I bought a wheel off ebay and im trying to find out what hub it is and whether i can get a replacement freehub for it it came with a XD driver but I need a shimano one.

I have come up blank on what hub it could be, I thought it was a chosen hub but after emailing them they came back saying its not one of theirs, there are no marking on it that I can see or decipher, so I thought I would turn it over to the collective knowledge of stw.

If anyone knows what it is that would be much appreciated.

Pics not working here.

Normal default response fur unnamed or rebranded hubs is Novatec.

If it's an unbranded / OEM hub then most likely to be Joytech / Formula - they make hubs for the likes of Specialized, Cannondale, Giant, Trek and lots of others.

If it's Novatec, then Halo are rebranded Novatecs if you get stuck

As someone who has done this before I suggest it might be easier to just buy a XD cassette. The problem with unbranded hubs is that you'll spend an age trying to identify what model it was and then you discover that Novatec have discontinued all spares for the hub despite it being only a year old.

This is a long-winded way of saying that my bikes all have Hope hubs: 50% to support British engineering, and 50% that I can still buy spares for my Pro2 hubs.

Sometimes the freehub will have some markings on it that give a clue.

Well that's what I get for trying to post while in a hurry, will have to sort out the pics later.

Had thought about getting an XD cassette but as the wheel is for my cx bike which currently has 10speed shimano it would be a large outlay to do that would be cheaper to get a new hub.

I thought it might have been novatec but can't find any on their site that looks like it.

There's no markings on either the hub or the free hub.

Thanks

novatec d792?

[img] [/img]

looks to have a steel freehub and axle so must be an oem version?

Freehub looks to be b2 type - compare closely with these pics

you'll find them cheaper elsewhere

Not that Novatec hub though, bulge on body is smaller, and the flanges look to be the same diameter, not asymmetric like the D792.

have a look here - pics of all the recent Novatec hubs, including discontinued ones:
