Time for some new shorts. I'm wearing baggies over lycra at the moment but it's not the most comfortable option (high wist on lycra means over-shorts always slip down eventually) I was thinking baggies with integrated liners, but then came across padded under-shorts (like boxer shorts).

These would allow me to wear any shorts/trousers (or even ronhills) I wanted but have padded comfort. I can't really see a downside?

Anyone else wear them? Are they comfortble/practical. Mostly for XC days (with pub/cafe stops, maybe some light touring (with pub/cafe stops) etc.

I use to be happy wearing lycra, but unless there's anything more modest than my old lycra shorts I'll not be bothering anymore (they far too revealing for public use!)

Any reason not to use bib shorts? You don't get the digging in of the waist band.

Padded undershorts are likely to have the same problem of the waist band.

I found that baggies tend to slide off bib shorts too so opted for some Decathlon liners which fit like padded boxers.
Have had no problems since. Cheap too.

baggies over bib shorts here too after years of integrated Endura clickfast liners. I find the baggies over bibs much more comfy, although yes, they do need pulled up a bit a few times per ride 🙂

My TLD (ace I think?) shorts came with a detachable liner (like a padded boxer) the clips to the shorts, so no slippage issues. Guess that doesnt help in this case though...

All my other shorts I wear lightweight bibs underneath. not had any slippage so far. that might becasue im getting fat though...

I tend to mix and match bibs and liners with baggies depending on the ride and my mood. If there's big climbing then bibs will pay dividends for your lower back. Glad to hear it's not just me with slippy shorts when over bibs!

Spesh do a bibbed baggy. Never tried them but if I was looking for a pair of baggies I would be looking at them. If I wear baggies, which is not that often, then I usually wear them under bibbed lycra shorts.

I've never understood why they sell undershorts that attach to the shorts with press studs etc. Is this really a convenience I need, why don't my jeans fit to my pants in that case ?

I'm a fan of endura click fast system, never got on with bibs to be honest, apart from anything else going for a waz is a palaver.. got several outers and inners which are all interchangeable, when I use longs I get the slipping problem but a belt helps, don't get all this waist band discomfort thing myself, I'm not exactly slim Jim either

I find baggies over bibs very comfy, moreso than the clickfast liners I used to wear, but yes, the Singletrack 2's slipping down is a bit annoying. They can be as tight as possible when standing, but still tend to creep down when riding.

Thanks all, may take a look at bibs. I don't find the lycra shorts come down or are uncomfortable, it's the over shorts that do.

I may end up wearing just lycra again to be honest, got sick of my overshorts slipping down or snagging the saddle today!

Searching for bib shorts and found these - reckon they look great for me. Just not at that price! Will have a look around though, sick of been uncomfortable.

+1 for the decathlon liners. I got fed up of sitting in the pub with sweaty bib braces even after a fresh top. The decathlon liners are a mesh material too so cooler than full Lycra under baggies.

Edit - decathlon liners are a lot cheaper too! I got the higher range ones for about £15 in the sale

Don't have a Decathlon near here, but may try similar stores.

I generally use liners and non bib lycra under baggies as I hate them slipping down when wearing bibs. However I have a pair of 3/4 Endura MT500 bibs which are not typical slippy lycra and work well. They are 7 years old though so not sure if the material is still the same.

Baggies over bibs here too. I did try some baggies with a click fit liner but it flopped around like a full nappy when I got out of the saddle.

These Gore Bike Wear bibtights do the job brilliantly - Under tights with shorts over the top, all in one!

Baggies over bibs here to, however the baggies do slip down a fair bit - there really should be more baggies with silicon gripper dots on the inside of waist band. I think Oakley do a pair like that but it's not very common

2XU Tri Shorts for summer, the waist band sits at the same height as baggies (TLD's and Endura's).

Can't get on with the endura clickfast liners, the fit for me isn't great and the pad is far too bulky.

For winter its Castelli Bibtights, yes they are expensive, but worth it for me as they fit and are warm/comfy for long rides in the cold/rain. Will probably look at some castelli bibshorts for next summer and speciailized swat bibs.

Baggies with liners that aren't lycra

The usual suspects Mavic/RF/Fox/TLD have MTB-specific liners. The pad is in a slightly different position compared to road liners and the micromesh material keeps everything in place

Good experience with Fox and North Face liners.

Just bought some of the Madison ones at about £24/pair. Great fit and good looking pad in them. Much more airy than lycra shorts so definitely need baggies over the top of them!
