Now that I have fitted a mudguard, my rear light is almost invisible. Can anybody recommend a light mount that will go under my saddle rails?
The Moon one is good - but you'd need a Moon light to fix to it
There's the rub, my light goes around my seatpost.
Exposure one is solid for my trace-r.
Moon Nebula works well on the saddle mount it comes with.
Exposure TraceR on their under saddle mount is great too.
Moon nebula light looks sensible money and loadsalumens
I use an ETC Rear RANA 180, was £13, came with saddle mount and a strap on so great for swapping between road and mtb bikes, bright as.
I have a hope district, rear light and it is mounted at the very top of my seta post, but then tilted upwards slightly .
I find this clears the mudguards
I use the Moon one but if you run your saddle slammed all the way forward (which I do) it may not fit - it works for my carbon railed saddles but none of my steel railed ones.
my light goes around my seatpost.
I'd bodge something with a wine bottle cork, some gorilla tape and some zip ties and pop the light onto that.
+1 on a bodge
The moon one is great, but as others have said it is not perfect depending on your saddle.
I run a saddle bag on my bike with a home bodged old (Carbonz) seatpost section glued to the light 'clip' hole, so I can bungee on my older Moon Helix.
What mudguard? If full length you can buy Bontrager mounts of various kinds.
MagicShine do an excellent one that comes with a seat rail fitting that clips on and then further secured with a couple of cable ties.
Super happy with my exposure trace r saddle rail mount
Likewise on the exposure. Just switch between different mounts on the different bikes as required, with the same TraceR light.
It’s really hard to fit a visible rear light on a 160mm 29er with a 185mm dropper post and big mudguards. I can’t remember right now what I’ve got on there but the mount is upside down with a bodge done by the owner of my LBS so I can take it off without any tools to charge it. I’ll go and check in a minute…
a bit of 35mm plumbing pipe with a couple of slits in it and a cable tie or two.
People who are doing this on full suspension bikes, you must be quite tall and/or have long chainstays?
I have an Exposure one, works well but having multiple bikes it’s way easier just to have one that clips to your backpack/waistpack or helmet.
Rats, bought the moon light and it won't fit because of the stupid battery on my axs dropper!
So further complication, is there a saddle mount light that works with an axs dropper?
“People who are doing this on full suspension bikes, you must be quite tall and/or have long chainstays?”
I’ve got long legs for my height and the chainstays are long too, but even so the light has to be right up between the saddle rails to stop the mudguard hitting it in the winter or the rear tyre ripping it off on the summer!
