Did anyone watch this?  Managed around 2 hours and hoping to catch up on Youtube.  I know that David Millar was riding the 200 but haven't heard how he got on.  Certainly a few other Brits and apparently half the field was international.  That dust looked a real challenge and am intrigued by the amount and length of tracks.  Are they privately owned by farms or how does it work?

There are miles of public gravel roads in Kansas in the Flint Hills.  I spent half a day riding on one on an otherwise tarmac tour. Good riding. Less than a car an hour.

25% of US roads are tarmac/pavement and the rest are graded gravel. Properly graded gravel is nicer to ride on than shoddily maintained UK back roads and not just because of the lack of cars out in the sticks!

Thanks both.  Certainly looked pleasant there and very green, should think it's a different matter in Winter though!

Alex Paton (of GCN) was 80th

I mentioned Unbound in the recent "road speeds on gravel" thread and that I'd been following the GCN build up to it. It's fascinating - Alex did a storming ride, averaged over 20mph throughout and yet was nowhere near the front third of the race. 😳

That's not anything against Alex - he's ridden for GB in cyclocross, he's raced the Tour of Britain - very obviously he's up in the top few percent of cyclists. He clearly put a huge amount of effort into the build up, GCN had some really good videos with his training, kit choice, acclimitisation and so on. Be really interesting to see his race video.

I felt much the same when racing* the Three Peaks. I'd get to the finish and the likes of Rob Jebb, Nick Craig etc would be well into their pub lunch by then. 🤣

Edit: just this second seen this on YouTube - GCN talking about the ever increasing speeds at Unbound

Maddy Nutt did a great video of her race, find her videos quite enjoyable in general.

They were averaging twice my usual speed over twice my biggest distance, I still just can't relate to it 😂

Ooh nice, my wife was worried I might run out of Unbound videos to watch 😎
