Hi
Left hand Shifting mechanism has died on my Canyon Endurace. It is a Shimano R8020 2X11 hydraulic brake combined unit operating the front mech and rear brake (UK). I'm struggling to find a sensible replacement.
Has anyone got experience of similar or have the knowledge of a sensible way forward? No issues fitting, bleeding ect.
1) Can the shifter mechanism alone be replaced? (I appreciate unlikely with an old brake)
2) Are all other shimano hrdraulic brake/shifters compatible assuming they are 2X.
Keen to avoid paying ridiculous money if possible but will if I have to. Don't have a LBS that I trust to be able to sort this reasonably quickly and the sun is shining.
Thanks
Matt
You may need to check with SJS/Spa Cycles to see if they have spares. My mate had to pay a small fortune for a standard Ultegra Shifter after the mechanism failed. Ebay other option
It's weird how road shifters aren't as reliable as MTB ones, yet are many times the price.
IIRC in summer 2020 my right 105 5800 shifter was jammed by a frayed and sheared gear cable just beyond the white cable guide (that is infamous on this model for wearing the cable and the guide due to the horrid angle they meet at under tension). With a bit of prodding to get the cable end barrel sitting better in its void in the mechanism, I got the mechanism working enough to removeand replace with a new one.
Do you know exactly what has died? Have a look at Shifter manual and check the cable is OK, no frayed bits blocking the mechanism, etc.
