I've just bought some glossy grey Ultegra 6700 cranks off the forum and was wondering if the PD-A600 SPD pedal was the same colour as the Ultegra cranks, all the pics of the A600's I've seen online look a blueish grey.

I'm fitting normal SPD's not SPDL's as I own 3 pairs of SPD compatible cycling shoes and like to be able to walk off bike, I've considered XT and XTR but the A600 is lighter as it's single sided and supposed to be Ultegra level therefore more road oriented

The photos are misleading, they're more of a dulled silver colour. You can get the blue effect from the pics but you'd probably have to be hanging off the bike at some weird angle to enjoy this particular mirage whilst riding.

Other than that, great pedal. I use them for road and off road.

Edit - The finish wears quick but who gives a shit, eh...

Cheers, it's got to look right while it's hanging in the garage though, it's a road bike after all bling bling.

How do you get on with them being just single sided? I've used the 324 single sided a few times but they look naff and are heavy, all my others have been dual.

The paint on those pedals comes off easily like a scratch card

I assumed they were anodized, I might stick with my M540's and save £47

They are ano, there's no paint to come off. However, your cleats tend to scratch the outside of the non-clipping side when you go to clip in which you can't see when you're riding 'cos it's underneath, and it's worse on one side than the other 'cos you tend to clip in and out with the same foot through habit. Just hang it in the garage with the less scratched side near the wall....... it's the only time anyone will notice. They are a dullish silver colour by the way. Great pedals, do exactly what it says on the tin, and matched with carbon soled SPD shoes are the prefect commuting combo.

Can remember what the finish is but because they are one sided... The foot you put down at junctions etc really scratches that pedal flipping it round to re clip in. Nice light pedals though and really good quality apart from the non durable finish

They hang bottom heavy like road pedals, so once you're used to kicking the front to clip in it's easy. Like I wrote, I use them off road, too, though I don't tend to unclip too much so makes little difference for me.

As far as the 540s go, the A600s are a lot lighter, obviously, and have a wider contact area, which when coupled with the right shoe is quite a nice platform for mileage and power, in my experience. Like Scapegoat claims, they're nice with a good stiff shoe. I use the Mavic Cyclo Tour, as it was the stiffest I could find in a shoe the correct shape for my feet but they feel really nice when I slip on my carbon soled Trail 120s. 8)
