My LH ultegra STI locked up (gearing not brake)shortly after fitting a new gear cable.
I removed cable and opened the panels underneath. After messing about a bit it started working again so I fitted another cable. Next ride it worked for a while then locked again. I only got it going by trying to change gear whilst clattering a pot hole.
I was thinking there may be a stray bit of cable wire stuck inside somewhere.
Should I flush it out with spray oil then try to regrease? I've no idea really. Anyone had and cured this type of thing?
the older models were quite infamous for failing. Must be loads of stuff on the www
My old tiagra ones used to do that, was usually the wee plastic ratchet bit for controlling the shifter movement snapping so sometimes it would work and other times it would jam (since it had snapped it could go squint etc). Right enough a good shoogle got it working but ultimately it was buggered.
I didn't find the same problem on tinternet, but thanks for the advice.
What I was wondering is whether flooding the workings with spray would be a problem because it would strip the grease.
