i'm at centre parks next week, i'm not allowed my mtb but may take my gravel bike 700x37c tyres setup tubeless

from memory its fairly flat from penrith to glenridding on the road, so a leisurely ride, but whats the bridleways from patterdale to Howtown like, is it doable on a gravel fairly easily?
i dont want shredded tyres , delays etc. how rocky and steep, it'd be nice to do a loop and I recall a lakeside track back to pooley bridge. the ferry could be an option £9 3 times daily.

i prefer doing loops rather than out and backs.

I think the lakeside bridleway is a bit much for a gravel bike. (Listen to anyone more ambitious than me though!)

If you're coming into Ullswater from Penrith it might be better to craft a loop using the various roads North of the Lake between the lake and the A66, and the smaller lanes between them. So turn right before Glenridding, depending on the total distance you want. It'd be a (hilly) road ride rather than gravel ride, but surfaces aren't great at the moment.

I don’t have the skills to ride that bway on my cx bike. Someone will , but it wouldn’t be fun.

BW is special and no way CX territory
Difficult enough on FS with some pushing

I think it be faster along there with a CX than an Enduro rig. Less to Carry

East side of Ullswater is brilliant. Loved it, on my Enduro Bike.

Would be utter shit on a Cx

High Street on the other hand......

No, really, if there's a huge frost then give it a go from the north. Barely a rock on it.

thanks for all the replies, i guess that sums up that idea,
if i made the 11am ferry i could potentially get the steamer to howtown, is it rideable from there?

i may just sneak off for a day and hire a bike at whinlatter

You can ride a fair chunk of whinlatter on a gravel bike, there are also some other fire roads and trails that link into a decent loop.
You could look at the lakes monster miles route as it runs through whinlatter and use some of that as the beginning of a loop

Here’s a ride I did on a monster electric hardtail from center Parcs. Through lowther and askham fell down into howtown. Lovely ride up to that point. Fine for a cx even. The lakeside way was an utter nightmare. It was a very wet day and the steep stone descents were treacherous. I’m a wuss when on my own as well so pushed a lot of it. Not easy with a 50 pound Ebike. It was great for the massive climb out of patterdale though. Nursed it back on eco and it went flat just after crossing the m6 on the way back. Managed to slowly ride back up the last hill into center parcs. Got 5000ft out of it though which I’ve not come close to since. Definitely type 2 fun.

Through Lowther Park to Askham, NW to Celleron, Roman Road BW round Heughscar Hill to the Cockpit, BW and road SE to Bampton. Keep going towards Haweswater (option to in/out to head of the valley is well worth it), green lane E through Frith Wood and continuation of it on farm tracks towards Thornship/Shap. Then lovely roads through Moulds Meaburn, Kings Meaburn, Morland.

Theres some lovely road and off road riding nearer whinfell than having to head towards the lakes, Dufton is only a few miles away, pick up the pennine way there in both directions, also loads of wee country lanes too.
