I went to Antur Stiniog today and had a blast. Where else in the UK can I get some kind of an uplft service?

I haven't done  a UK uplift for a few years but I really enjoyed Revolution.

Hamsterley used to be my local but I'm not giving a penny of my money to Paul Hart.

Why not, out of interest?

Looks like it’s gone, but let’s just say racists and conspiracy theorists had a safe space there.

Cwmcarn has some nice dh runs but the uplift is a pain if you are used to revo, antur, Pearce etc as it takes ages.

Love antur and revo, 417 is just brain out fun, bmcc is like a giant bmx track (fast and fun), the Pearce ones are proper techy natural stuff. If you can then get to caersws and the one out in the llyn peninsula (sorry can't remember the name) as that place is challenging

Paul Hart's a pure fanny but are you going to miss out on good riding for it?

Innerleithen's the obvious one that's not been mentioned, doesn't have the trailcentryness of antur>

BPW gets all the attention it seems like, but it's reasonably close to BMCC and the FOD and they're both so much better... We're off down there for a week, 2 days BMCC, 2 days FOD, 1 day BPW, says it all really 🙂

One of the funniest things I’ve ever read on here is someone calling Paul Hart a loaded weapon and it is true.

Danny and his missus also subscribe to the anti-vax rhetoric so if you feel strongly about that then give it a miss.

But if you live in NE/NY I wouldn’t let it put you off as it’s the only uplift without driving a few hours.

Cheers folks, much appreciated.

It's a public road to the top of CyB and I managed to get a lift so and rode the 'Adams Family' bits a couple of times as a result. It was fun, albeit short.

Question- what would stop me setting up as a taxi and offerring my services to take people from A to B, where B is at the top of a hill?

I can see FC getting involved if I was touting for custom in their carparks/ centres/ on their land but surely if I was a Private Hire it would not be an issue.

I would imagine they would not take too kindly on anyone trying to encroach on their business. Even if they already make a boat load from their existing exploitations

Taxi laws. essentially its illegal for you to take anything other than fuel money (as in, the cost of the fuel for the trip they take, nothing more) to transport anyone from point A to Point B without the appropriate license. assuming its a public road you are using. i think if its private you just need the landowners permission.

if you did set up properly as a taxi though, you'd only be able to charge the set rates. Mini cab is a bit different though.

I was thinking about places with no current uplifts, hence the Coed y Brenin example. I hate antagonising people, so have would have no intention of doing so. To be viable I would need to live very locally, have a vehicle (and trailer) and a clientelle/ demand. Relocating to CyB might offer these things. The Heol Ddu ride on Cadiar Idris could also be on the menu. Snowdon trips, collecting from Rhyd Ddu and returning to Llanberis?

What sort of insurance would be needed?

Just musings really, I'm sitting in a great cottage in Tanygrisiau on holiday thinking about upcoming retirement. Wine is involved in my evening.

Absolutely not. There's enough contention on Snowdon as it is, even with the agreement.

Hey, I'm trying to make a linving here...

Joking aside (these really are just rose tinted musings, see above. Goodness knows I've lived in N, Mid and S Wales long enough to have a grasp of the seasonality of business and the difficulties of access onto/ over Yr Wyddfa.

Has anyone ever done something like this before?

Why don't you buy a big sleeper coach full of bunk beds and base yourself in Europe for the whole summer? Collect groups of people from an airport of their choice and take them on a road trip around the best destinations.

I may have day dreamed about this before but it's never going to happen.

Foel is one that always seems to get overlooked but the tracks are great.

One thing I’ve found though is that with a modern enduro bike and half decent fitness at a lot of tracks you can get as many runs in pedalling up as you would on the bus.

Hamsterley is a prime example, I managed c13 runs in 4 1/2 hours the other week. Iirc the most I’ve done there in the uplift is 15 in a full day.
