You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The idea of disappearing with my bike for a few days is becoming increasingly appealing.
I like the idea of point-to-point over 4 days but will need to be very low daily mileage and not too far from Hampshire. Not wanting to use panniers so happy to go minimalist.
Importantly, it needs to be interesting territory so anything historical would be terrific.
Over to you for some suggestions so thanks in advance. 🙂
South Downs Way seems like the obvious choice
make up the Off road version of the Ridgeway (its only partially bike access)- be amazing in the summer!
IMBA Trans Cambrian - http://imba.org.uk/where-to-ride/trans-cambrian-way/
or Further North, the C2C with the Offroad sections, including High Cup Nick
Hopefully in a few years the full Pennine Bridleway, but you could do the 'so far' version
Edit - overall, I think that using the Ridgeway as a 'spine' for something would be really good, unfortunately they've somewhat gutted the youth hostel network that used to make it the perfect trail!
Hmmmm, follow the Ridgeway?? Catch the train back??
Follow the river Itchen down to Sotty (towpath all the way) then New Forest via the coastal road into Boscombe, Swanage. Corfe, Wareham, train back?
Hangers Way from Liphook to Portsmouth (most on the sustrans route so mainly off road Bridleways/gravel/lanes) train back?
Failing that look at the sustrans routes on their website, most routes are easy gravel/lanes etc. and can be linked so you could P 2 P it and train back.
Have fun, sounds Ace.
Up early, train to Penrith, ride the C2C with bag transfer then train home afer?
How about an Isle of Wight tour? Plenty of history and tea shops 🙂
Combine the Kennet & Avon canal with the Ridgeway for an out and back loop, plenty of history in the area and B+B shouldn't be an issue 8)
Thanks for the suggestions. 🙂 Knew you peeps could be relied on for inspiration. 8)
The Ridgeway is very tempting despite having walked the whole trail and cycled parts of it anyway. Never get tired of it.
Wessex Ridgeway is also a contender, as is riding some more of Ackling Dyke.
Re the Kennet & Avon - I actually got shouted at by some bloke on a boat, moaning I was going too fast on the towpath. 😯
SDW and IoW too hilly. 🙁
After LEJOG last year, I'm fancying a couple of days and doing Wales South-North, taking in some of the National Parks. Must sort a route..
Spud, search Lon Las Cymru for on-road and off-road routes.
The Harrow Way c-g?
Cheers psling!
get train to chippenham and cycle the Ridgeway back to the Bell at Aldworth, i'll give you a lift home from there.
