UDH hangers- any reason not to just buy a SRAM one?

Not really interested in a Burgtec at £30+ unless it's radically better. Could do with a spare or two so SRAM or an alternative? Thanks in advance...

If this is to fit to a trek, yes. Whilst a UDH does fit, the trek one has a larger diameter inner (or is is outer) that doubles as a suspension bearing cover/seal.

It's not a Trek, but that's good to know.

Nukeproof do two versions I think- a stronger version as an option that doesn’t cost much more.

Surely the hanger is supposed to be sacrificial? i.e. stronger isn't better

I think it rotates. It’s not really sacrificial. And there’s not a sacrificial bolt either.

Well it is supposed to rotate yes. Mine rotated and bent. Replaced it with a stronger one. Which rotated and then the derailleur mount snapped.

Isn't the whole point of them that they're meant to be interchangeable?

@reeksy the mount on the frame snapped? Or the mech? That doesn't sound good either way 🙁

I expect you can improve on the standard as long as the frame can take a standard UDH, and perhaps too that your UDH will fit any frame.

Wow, Trek, talk about missing the point!

Never had a Trek I take it? They love taking easy stuff and making it complicated. They have an entire department who’s job it is to make proprietary parts to solve problems they invented.

I don't think they're really missing the point, just following Sram's design.

If the design relies on bending not just rotating... what happens with a Transmission derailleur?

Transmission can rotate as per UDH.

In bending, the loads from the transmission derailleur is transferred into the thru-axle and not the frame as a lot of people believe, which is why it's significantly stronger than a traditional derailleur hanger setup.

Exactly, it's designed to rotate, not bend in a sacrificial way. That's the UDH design. So stronger is "better" as per the design. Still not sure about it myself, but it's a different approach... people can't expect them to bend (or have a sheer bolt fail) to protect the frame... that's not the idea behind them... they are not like the replaceable hangers we've been used to for decades.
