Last year we did a Czech mtb holiday with the organisers - so glad they have managed to salvage some kind of race for 2020. Looks very different to previous years (autumn and no crowds). Thanks for the tv links.

Hang on...

I think it's only fair to change the title of the thread to reflect it's only a Cross Country "World Cup" and not a real one.

It's like when the BBC went all woke and started to headline Women's Football like proper Football.

Great for Evie.  I’ve yet to catch up on the post race detail, what happened to Nino?

what happened to Nino?

Crashed hard on the tarmac on the 3rd lap, finished 29th.

Great result for Evie Richards, shame Annie Last got caught up in the crash towards the end - those 'jumps' looked sketchy as flip in those conditions / with those tyres..

Bring on the main course!

Great race for Langvad too, considering she started right at the back.

Top 20 women separated by just 19 seconds, and mens' by just 6 seconds!!

amazing result for Evie, fingers crossed she can carry on for the main race.

I hope she can too, but then she's a power-rider, and the short-track was a pretty flat course. Not to take away from her though...absolutely stunning Elite debut! What a star.

We may find that those who killed themselves in the Short Track wont have the time to recover for the two main events in such short sucession. Added to the fact no one has raced for ages, its quite likely the most unpredictable event for years.

With work today and an evening ride tonight it'll be about 10pm replay for me, so I'll be avoiding the thread for a while.

Loved the Evie Richards post race interview. A stark contrast to the second placed Ferrand Prevot who was all bland and serious, Evie was the epitome of English middle class, slightly quirky and understated. She’s the Thomas Müller of the mountain bike world!

Not as good as the Men's race. The Mexican fella seemed to have no team fussing over him with a clean shirt, sponsors sunglasses and coat (is he on the scott-sram team, or just on Scott frames?) just a short woman in a rain coat that may have been his mum. And then the interview was delayed as - in Warner's words - they needed to find someone who could translate from Mexican...

Just to confirm, the only world cup XC races this year at the two this week? There's nothing else after Sunday or am I missing something?

Well you have Nove Mesto 29/9-4/10, then Maribbor (Slovenia) 15-18/10 and Lousa (Portugal) 29/10-1/11.

But this may change as it all depends on Covid in those places. Only one for sure is Nove Mesto. So for DH racing they may only have one race or even none !

To start 4 rows back and go straight to the front, then crash, get up and remount "dirty side" in one fluid movement - she's a very talented rider. Can't wait to see her racing cx again.

I enjoyed the young french lass (who won the long race) riding cruising up that rock section most the men had to get off and run up... even on the last lap very impressive.

Was a great race by Evie and saw nothing wrong with her sprint-loads of room. Guessing Pauline feeling the pressure to get a win and frustration coming through.

Shame it sounded like it took the edge off the victory a bit.

Looking forward to Sundays races-I think Nino will be more in contention this time-hopefully some good racing.

Slight thread hijack, I'm trying to get into racing more, what's the go-to for race results, previews etc? I follow a few pros on Instagram*, but would be good to have a one-stop shop. XC, DH, Enduro, all good.

*The women seem to be more honest, less look at me BS. Evie has an excellent positive energy, Miranda Millar has a very dry humour, Katie Winton just gets on with it. Don't seem to take themselves too seriously.

Anyway, as you were! Cheers.

Evie Richards is great value. Watched her win the u23 cross nationals year before last. I was stood At the top of the big climb and a good few laps In she comes storming up, I shout ‘go on Evie’ she comes back with ‘oh thank you very much’ 🙈 1) you don’t have to thank me it’s my job - I cheer you pedal 2) how can you even Breathe never mind speak?

@roger_mellie Pinkbike is good for MTB racing content, of all varieties.

PFP said later that she was concerned about hitting the barrier but also said that there was no way she could've out sprinted Evie anyway, even in a straight line. Just heat of the moment reactions.

Loved the women’s races and that Evie is something else. Nothing wrong with the sprint. Pauline had lost before she started complaining.

It’s funny though; watching it I thought they weren’t going that fast. Then I saw the average speed. 17mph off-road on a full suss. That’s unreal. I can’t even manage than on my gravel bike on the road.

Neff was injured/poorly hence missing the 2nd short race. She started but pulled out.

Courtney just seemed to struggle all round, losing about 30s per lap when they were showing her times etc. Didn't seem to be any reason, just looked knackerd.

According to Kate Courtney's FB page, she just had a bad day and struggled to the finish 🙁 Need Kate and Jolanda Neff in the race to make it more interesting.

The Men's race was similar to what the women racing was last year.

Maybe Kate Courtney was keeping something back for the Worlds next week.

The men’s race was great. Lovely to see that the win meant so much to Avancini.

It’s slippery that’s for sure. Possibility of more rain for the men’s race too.

Isla short going well in 5th at the moment, hopefully she can maintain it to finish. Top 5 in world championships a few years back for GB riders seemed a distant dream so next generation looking good!
