So the UCI Champs start soon - early August.

I'll be watching the Elite Mens Road race with Mrs SSS (whos excited to see Wout and Tadej) at Culross in Fife.

Well be going to Stirling too to see the ITT.

Looking forward to it.

Going to Velodrome session on the first Saturday
Heading up the hill to cheer on Marathon riders on Sunday, mainly to cheer on Isla Short
Doing work / hospitality / pressing flesh type stuff on Thursday at GT
Volunteering for medical cover at XC on Fri and Saturday, mainly so I ensure I get a decent view of the race!

Going to the DH at Nevis Range both days. Won't make it home in time to watch the elite mens road race pass through our home town though.

Quite fancy watching the TT in Stirling. Watched a course preview vide earlier and it's got a brutal finish to the course!

Clashes with Enduro southern champs and then we're up the week after for DH at Glencoe. So this year, we're a no.

I need to pull my finger out and sort what I’m doing. Given that I can see the main hill of the road race from where I’m sitting right now, I don’t have much of an excuse not to go catch some of it

Fort William on Thursday for the whole event. Its a bit of a 'thing' that we used to do back 20 years ago - I think we did 02-03-04-05, culminating in being in the arena opposite the finish line as Peaty finally got the win - a lasting memory -

Now going back as a bunch of grown up Dads. Roadtripping, Camping, Eating, undoubtedly some Drinking (Fort William has a Nightclub now!?). The racing being on the Saturday is also very useful. Its fair to say I cannot wait...

I was down as a Course Marshall at the downhill but the whole dealing with the event organisation has been a bit of a mare, particularly confirming camping arrangements (not helped by the Corran ferry fiasco) so I just bought a 4-day ticket for Glentress instead.

Was meant to be meet and greet at GT but was told I would see none of it. So I'm hoping big Max, the race director, can score me a pass, otherwise it's up to 3B to watch.

TT in Stirling on Friday evening for me.

Short cycle in but not passing the house like it is for some friends.

The climb up to the castle will be superb - the noise for the PruTour prologue in 1998 was exceptional.

Taking my wife and five year old to Nevis Range for the DH finals. Scored accommodation in Glen Nevis so will probably take a hike up to the Steall falls one day and a drive out to Arisaig another day if weather decent. Looking forward to it!

Taking the train down to Glasgow with my 5yo boy for the men’s elite. His first live sporting event, but gonna need to plan some other stuff to do than stand in George Square all day.

But what riders are missing, doesn't look like Jackson is ready and how is Finn's thumb injury, Canada's top guys might be out of the DH.

Taking part in the people’s peloton as part of the opening ceremony on Wed evening. Doing flag and whistle marshalling for the TT on Friday, watching the elite men’s race as it comes through our village and then off to watch the track cycling on Sunday afternoon.

So I guess I can say I’m going!

Going to the downhill! Getting home from work on the Thursday, sort some things out and pack then up early Friday morning to drive over there. Staying Friday night then home after the elite finals.

Just need to hope I get home on time.

I am working at the XC, but hoping with careful management I can get to see some the racing.  The team relay is usually good fun and on a quiet day. Who is Big Max when he is at home?

We're staying at Glen Nevis for the DH on Friday & Saturday, then have tickets for glentress on Thursday (that should sort the kids having pals there @13thfloormonk).

The time trial passes my office window at the start of the final climb, so I'm not expecting to get much work done on the Wednesday or Friday 🙂

Going to GT for MTB.

Elder son is helping with the medals ceremony - but no idea if that’s at the podium or round the back tidying up energy bar wrappers in the waiting area.

@scaredypants Good public transport, particularly trains and subway, in Glasgow and a decent bike path up the river so every chance of getting in from the edges easily.

Got tickets for the DH finals but despite the resort's usual policy looks like the UCI are a bit sniffy about dogs attending. As we'll be up there with the mutt in the van on holiday that makes things a bit awkward so might have to give it a miss.

Up at Nevis range thursday evening and will leave after the race on saturday . Staying at the wild camp for the first time . Looking forward to it and the weather looks Ok . Gonna just cycle back and forth to Nevis as the shuttle buses can be a pain . Didn't bother with the gondola access this time as we will just slowly wonder up .

Heading over for the DH for Friday and Saturday.

Hoping the wind stays up enough to keep the midges under control, but not so much to stop the gondola - August is when the little buggers have really got their teeth sharpened!

Good luck to anyone staying at Wild Camp - we ended up there at the last World Cup.  It's a great location, as long as it doesn't rain...

DH on Saturday for me- car load of four. Probably ebike in to see a bit of the marathon.

Did consider marshalling but the six shift minimum was a sticking point. Then the attitude from the organisers that we'd be lucky/fortunate to be able to work 6 days for free counted me out for sure.

Might pop along to the practice day at GT if I'm not busy, otherwise I'm doing Gordo's uplift party on the finals day. Ride all day then watch on the big screen at Innerleithen for £9 more than the ticket to watch the XC made it a no brainer.

We were in Glenelg mid-July, midgies seemed pretty tame considering the still, muggy conditions we had. Fingers crossed!

I'm marshalling the DH and I'm only doing Friday and Saturday; didn't see anything about 6 shift minimum. I got in via doing the EWS last year though so not sure if that makes a difference.

The uplift and trails on Nevis range are closed; so I'm looking for a couple of routes to ride post-drive on Thursday and pre-drive on Sunday if anyone has any recommendations for the area?

There are probably plenty of trails still accessible directly from Torlundy area - basically the western trails around Nevis Range.  Otherwise, there are some nice techy trails around the back of Glencoe Village, or big mountain stuff around Kinlochleven.

I've found a 16 mile loop up Glen Nevis that takes in the village Braveheart was film (apparently) - I'll have to get a look on Komoot or similar. Need to be fairly well planned to fit it in!

Yeah I did wonder if the blue/red trails at the base of the range would still be accessible; I think its just the gondola which is off limits.

Shimano have a big E-bike demo thing running from the main car park whilst the DH is on so there must be other trails available and open for riding.

Interesting- It was in the terms and conditions at registration. I did EWS in '21 and '22 as well, they were ok with just doing one day at each!

I see they're desperate for marshals for Ride the Worlds at GT and Fort Bill, can't make either though.

I was down as a trainee Commissaire for a couple of the qualifer rounds, but never had any comms for one, and the other was cancelled due to not enough qualified Commissaires.

There's now a big Hollywood style Glentress sign in the XC start area, looks like its coming together well.

Nice! I did two days and it was enough! Maybe we were on the hill together...

I wouldn't want to do more than two thats for sure - I wish I'd actually just done the Saturday so I could fit more riding in; but I guess its going to be quite a one-off event to be a part of. They're longer days than EWS - Course marshalls start at 7:25am!

Have to give credit to Rare; their comms has been great, they've sorted me out with camping (well, somewhere to park the van) and you get breakfast and lunch and on Saturday you get evening meal as well. I really enjoyed the marshalling at EWS so I'm hoping it's gonna be as good.

Another one here that was initially keen to volunteer for marshalling duty but was totally put off by the six shifts thing.
A few mate felt the same way too.
I also marshalled the EWS in 21 and 22 doing two days both times.

Weird, not sure whats happened there then. As EWS was with ESO I initially signed up to Glentress but then requested a swap which they fulfilled without issue. Can't say I actually read the terms and conditions haha - but at no point has anyone said I need to sign up for more shifts, theres just the two on my volunteer dash thingy.

At the end of the day, they either want free help or they don't - being picky isnt going to help their cause!

Crow Road will be a shambles. No parking on the side that’s used for the climb, and there’s little parking in Fintry at the base of the climb. I’d head for Carron valley and watch them doing the climb up from Fankerton to the end of the New Line Road. Loads more accessible and bound to be fewer spectators.

@weeksy The challenge class (basically age group worlds for BMX) runs at the same time as the pro's race. Qualificiation is via national series the year before - he's actually doing a lot better this year (currently ranked joint 2nd nationally on cruiser - tied with Harry Schofield (!)- and 16th on the 20" I think. He's won the south west regional series on both bikes this year). So looking good for next years qualification for worlds in South Carolina.  Hoping for a good result at the British Champs in August but the world champs is just for fun and a nice GBR jersey with his name on it, he won't be competitive at that level.

There's none of the kit agony to justify a 'weeksy08' thread in bmx, but the time commitment is similar - training 4 nights a week and then racing most weekends. I just check tyre pressures, chain tension, brakes. Then it's just who is best at bikes. It's a very simple sport!

Looks like everyone will be congregating in Fort Bill and Glentress! Have fun all.

Big thumbs up to all the future marshalls! And good luck to @ianpv and son in the BMX.

My sum total effort will be watching the proceedings, and helping put up balloons and bunting in Culross for the road race (where theyre passing through), which the riders probably wont even notice as theyll have passed through in about 15 seconds 😀 (might get on telly tho as its where Outlander is filmed)

At the end of the day, they either want free help or they don’t – being picky isnt going to help their cause!

But what they don't want is thousands of people each doing one shift, they want a couple of hundred people doing 6 shifts each.
The logistics in terms of clothing, communications, transport, parking, accommodation - all of which are already at a premium - is not going to be helped by having someone who really only wants to marshal here for one day cos their mate is riding.

The Olympics was the same.

I'm not sure they managed to get the numbers by being picky though. Sounds like several experienced track marshals on here who couldn't/wouldn't commit that would have otherwise, myself included.

Anybody know when the start lists will be published? Only a couple of days to go and nothing available on the UCI website.

I'll be manning a stand for Bikes for Refugees at Blair Drummond Smiddy on Thursday and Friday next week. The time trial course passes the Smiddy on three sides so it should be a good place to watch that if anyone fancies coming along.

Anyone who works for Scottish Government or any other body linked to them has been invited to volunteer for the worlds at full pay if anyone fancies that.

I'll be up to race the XC marathon! I'll be up from Thurs to Tues, so sadly can't really watch anything else.
At my level all I want to achieve is a good day out riding and beating people I know personally, I won't be within sight of the medals! The course looks infinitely better than last year though (Denmark), so should be easier to have some fun.

Anyone had any sneaky riding on the XCM course? Home advantage would be wasted if we can't get some insider trading going.

As a local I can confirm that Fort William is already rammed, more than normal. I'd stay at home myself to avoid the humanity. That's what I'll be doing......and I can get in for free. Putting up a volunteer, don't quite get that myself, why don't folk get paid? Good luck turning up ad-hoc, security and formality seems like World Cup x 3. Hope you all enjoy yourselves.

I didn't need any of those and would gladly have given three days despite none of my mates racing.

The six days or nothing stance was just daft.
