that said he’s posted that he disagreed with the rule change even though he benefitted.
TP did it all correctly - read the rules, planned his season around attending (and winning) at least one World Cup race, got his world champs ride and now has a spot for Paris.
it’s a shame he’s getting smeared with the same brush as mvdp and Sagan - although have we found out who instigated this rule change?
If it was the Ghanaian, he arrived on a plane with no bikes, was competing in MTB marathon, time trial and Grand Fondo. He was loaned bikes by Billy Bilsland Cycles and, apparently, he said he had never seen bikes like them before. He finished the MTB marathon 4 hours after the winner. What a legend.
Some of them were an absolute liability in group riding scenarios. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about them being there because, in terms of talent, they shouldn't be anywhere near a World Championships.
However in terms of exposure, publicity, potential opportunities as well as the UCI trying to show it's not all about rich white nations, I can see the value in it.
Still not convinced that seeing a rider be put into the broom wagon after 20km or finishing 4hrs behind the winner is enhancing the spectator appeal of the sport though... 🤷🏻♂️

Has anyone else found themselves watching bikes that they hadn’t expected to?
In the 20yrs I’ve been mountain biking Mrs K has barely registered an interest - although to be fair helps at races etc - but has been transfixed with the DH.
Watched the BMX racing yesterday, Beth Shriever dominated the womens, she could power the whole of Glasgow with those legs.
Great effort from all the Brits in the Mens but looks like the French are as handy at BMX racing as they are at DH.

My wife watched the final 100km of the men's road race on tele, having never showed the slightest bit of interest in any form of cycle sport before. She thought it was brilliant.

Most definitely - I've never had any interest in track cycling, but one of the best races I've seen over the past few weeks was the men's eliminator. Proper exciting, fair few crashes, blood, torn lycra and a British winner in a thrilling finish.
Track Eliminator is ace. As is the madison, which is just nuts.
I honestly think track cycling is one of the best spectator sports in the world. Constant racing, constant action, always a great seat as venues are relatively small. You can drink beer and you stand a good chance of seeing a home grown champion.
Watched both the xc and the BMX on catch up last night. Did look like an amazing event and Scotland should be proud.
Both Beth Schriever and Tom Pidcock's performances were incredible and are a massive credit to them and their teams. I was surprised by the commentator's lack of appreciation of what was going to happen in the xc though. Not once did I hear him mention TP in the build up to the race and he seemed to pay him no attention until he got to the front (I did skip a few minutes though) . Can't believe that he was so unaware of TP's ability to turn up and win as he chooses. . .

I had intended to watch road track and MTB - which I did.
I hadn't particularly intended to watch anything else but I did.
With the paracycling running in the main track programme I got to see quite a bit of that and it's humbling to see people with really serious levels of disability getting on bikes and racing round a track.
I wasn't going to watch the trials as it all seems a bit artificial to me but I caught the 20" final in the pouring rain and that was brilliant.
Cycleball. Watched about 5 minutes and decided "yeah, seen that". Great track standing though.
Artistic Cycling. Didn't expect to like it so wasn't disappointed. I reckon you would see a similar or better level of skill in a circus. In fact I was hoping a French team would turn up in boiler suits and welding chainsaws (reference to Archaos there).

👍Yup,watching on TV can never do it justice.
It's far better when you can look around the whole track,see the moves happen in the big races,appreciate the speed when you are close to the track side,and...that... noise of those the big races😁.
It's even better if you have had the chance to ride on a velodrome,it's totsamzbalz😊
