Is anybody using them? Did you die? I've ordered some Zees and would like to treat my bike to new discs too.
Using 2nd hand superstar floating rotors. Working great didn't die on trip to Vallnord last year. Running with Slx brakes
Used both. Both fine.
Good enough for me, ta 😀
why not get shimano discs?
Hi,
Got them with SLXs as well. 180/180.
No problems whatsoever...
Just bear in mind that they are slightly thicker than standard rotors.
So if you have very tall pads or narrow space for rotor it might rub a bit...
Cheers!
I.
I looked at getting some SuperStar floating discs but was put off by the perforation pattern - 2 concentric circles with a sold strip in between:

I had some formula discs with the same design and it led to uneven pad wear - more in the middle and less on the sides. I ended up getting some Clarks discs instead from CRC - had no problems with them:

ive got some uberbike ones, not noticed any pad wear issues
I have been on überbike ones for 8 months on zee brakes and am still alive
I have Uberbike ones- 180mm, now over 2 years old. I think they may result in reduced power (purely conjecture) but the main problem is that they wear two grooves in the pad where the holes are, for exactly the reasons outlined above. I'll keep running them but on the next bike I'll just get Shimano ones.
I had superstar floating rotors a few years back. They were ok, though had some fork clearance issues with Recons. I also had to true them about as often as one piece rotors, so went back to standard ones when building my current bike.
Poah- I didn't realise/know Shimano made floating discs- next time maybe, or Clarks.
The number of people who are still alive is encouraging though! Staying alive is great 😀
Anyway, I ordered some 203 and 180 Uberbike discs. Superstar didn't have the right colours in stock 😳 😆
no one makes floating discs for MTB's BTW
Care to elaborate? Am I confusing semi-floating with floating? Coming from motorcycles, where a two part disc (ie the central carrier and outer friction surface are held together by bobbins, thereby allowing the friction surface to 'float' on the carrier somewhat) is 'floating'- I may be confusing my floaters and non-floaters...
What Teef said, ive just replaced the 2nd Superstar 180 rotor on the rear for exactly the uneven wear problem, went for Shimano this time but hadn't spotted the Clarks offering which with colour choice look spot on.

Probably yes.
Every company selling them for MTB calls them floating. Then a pedant turns up in every thread to correct it.
Clarks and Ubers on 2 of my bikes here. Solid SLX on my Zee's on another bike. Clarks are very similar to the ubers, but the alloy hub is slightly machined different. Other than that, I cant see the difference other than a few quid. Both work well, albeit are damn noisy. Not squealing, but heavy hum when braking hard. They seem to offer more bite than the Shimano SLX solid discs with Zee's. All bikes are running Uber semi pads. No wear yet on the floating discs although some scoring appearing on the SLX. I would fit floaters on my SLX disced bike, but has centre lock rotors.
😆
I tried some of the Superstar ones with my Deore 615 brakes, the rotor was so thick it wouldn't pass through the caliper...not just rubbing on the pads (which could've been forced back into the pistons as a solution) but actually too thick to pass through the caliper housing itself.
Emailed SS who replied promptly, they knew of the problem and suggested I file away the required amount of caliper until the rotors would spin through freely!...,erm how about No!
I'm a fan of Superstar, I love their wheel sets and like their no nonsense products at reasonable prices but that put me off their brake rotors.
When I declined their suggestion they did give me a refund....if I was experimenting with rotors like that again I'd go to Uberbike.

don't see how it can be pedandic.
poahdon't see how it can be pedandic
Do you mean pedantic?
Boom! Pedant in out-pedanted shock 😀
edit- so, uh, these discs are ok then, eh? Brill.

Shimano make centelock floating rotors.
Eddie, they do, but I fancied a pair of 203mm x 180 mm Ubers or Clarks on my Jekyll. Bought them , then realised that the spline adaptors don't fit alloy 6 bolt discs FFS. So stuck them on my C456 and bought the SLX steel ones instead.
