Hi all,
So I bought a gxp BB from uberbike last year to replace my rough original sram one. However, on fitting, I found it would almost lock solid once I torqued up the cranks. This was with 1 x 2.5mm spacer on nds for 73mm shell as per instructions. After speaking with the guys at uberbike, they sent me a bunch of 1mm and 0.5mm spacers too to find that magic fit. However, by this time I'd regressed my sram bb and refitted it for a race, and popped all uberbike one in the shed. FF a year and the sram one is obviously now toast, useable, but needs replacing. Been trying every combo I can think of today with the uber one, but not happening!! Either binds up or has play. Doing my head in!! Anyone had similar issues?
I've seen a lot of love for the Praxis works m24 gxp compatible bb, tempted to order one, but are they a direct swap for standard sram or do I have to faff about with spacers etc to bodge it right again??!! If so, I'll just order another sram one and put up with the poor sealing...
I had the same where the uberbike one would lock up with the 2.5mm spacer but was fine with a 1mm spacer. It's been pretty durable as well and has lasted longer than the sram ones before.
The nukeproof bottom bracket sounds tempting, when it came out they made a thing about it coming with a 2 year warranty but i'm not sure how much abuse that covers in reality.
I keep saying this in various bb related threads but a token tk878ex bb with hope gxp adapter is identical(in all but name it seems) to a hope bb.. Axle sits onto the bearings with no top hats etc.
Bearing numbers 6805r(24mm inner instead of 6805 25mm) which are the same size as hopes so as and when you wear them out, are easily replaced too.
I have a Nukeproof one, no issues so far!
Fyi, I've got a new M24 for sale on eBay 😜👌
Here we go, found my ad in the classifieds

I tried no spacers, 0.5mm, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm and the 2.5mm non drive side spacers and none quite get the job done. 1.5mm was the closest, span freely, but still a little play. 0.5mm either way and too tight or too much play. I've messaged uber again to see if there's anything I've missed, but I'm thinking I'm gonna be looking for a different option! Bit ridiculous though that uber bbs won't work as advertised, waste of bloody money that...
Transporter, the token option looks good if it works. 20ish quid by the looks of it. Is it really as good as. Hope unit you think? I actually ordered a gxp adapter off ebay 6 months ago thinking I might try a shimano bb with one as heard its possible. Anyone care to confirm? The slx bb I had on my previous bike lasted for yonks. Is the adapter a simple procedure, I can't be dealing with more bodges, I just want something that works. Is the praxis m24 plug n play??
The hope adapter is in 2 pieces which press into either side of the non drive bearing.. Once that's done just fit and forget really.. Even when the bearings eventually wear out.. Its only a case of replacing them instead of buying a whole new bb.... I've had 2 of them on bikes for a few years with nothing but 1 non drive bearing change each iirc.

Yep, tried this but Shimano BB cups are different widths to SRAM so you end up with a rubbish chainline. I've reverted back to stock OE GXP BBs and accepting the wear rate, which IME varies across the same model. Play the OE lottery and run them till they stop turning is my advice!
I've a uberbike bb on my voodoo bizango, one spacer (no idea on thickness), no play, bearings spin smooth and been OK since fitting in September. Only issue I did have was grit easily got between the bearing and plastic cover which made some interesting noises
I like the sound of the nukeproof ones actually, bit more cash, but 2yr warranty including bearings seems like a sweetener. 10er off for new customers brings it down to 40 quid. Any feedback yet?? Dhrider... Plug n play?

Given what we know about GXP, I don’t think I’d lay the blame at Uberbike. FWIW my Uberbike BB went straight on with whatever spacer it came with and has been absolutely fine
With the uberbike BB, are you putting the 5mm spacer between the BB and crank (drive side) while the 2.5mm spacer is between the BB and frame? That worked fine for me.
I had loads of issues with the top hat washer on my Uberbike BB. Played around with spacers etc and never got it right.
Fitted a SRAM one for 15 quid well over a year ago, no issues.
@onedpete Yes straight swap. The drawings are downloadable from each product page on CRC if you are stuck too.
