Read a lot of chat recently about not putting skinny tyres on massively wide rims. I have a set of 23 mm internal hooked rims and I’m looking to use a set of 25 mm corsa g+ set up with tubes. Because that’s what I have lying around
in 2022 they said this combo was fine, just. Can’t find a more up to date table however. I’m a bit wary.
Will I die?
I think the issue with narrow tyres on wide hooked rims is two fold:
1.whether you can get them on, because the centre channel is further from the rim edge.
2. Is the tyre pressure within the max rim tolerance (I think this is why specialized made their mk1 Rapide wheels tubed only.)
Hookless obviously has a different set of rules, but I don't go near them.
ETRTO standards have had a load of work done by manufacturers to update them, but the standard hasn't changed
The Schwalbe table reflects some of that research and there's an old Mavic Engineer Talk article if you can find it
