I've bought a CX bike, and having ridden standard cross tyres (racing ralphs), I puncture a lot due to small embedded flints that cut right into the tyre and are a nightmare to remove. I am thinking that going tubeless and using a MTB tyre would help? CX doesn't yet appear to be using tubeless.
Clearance to around 1.7 (40mm) is about my threshold. I'm assuming 700c / 29'er are the same, although some manufacturers / retailers seems to think not - is this right?
Wheels are a set of 29'er Crests.
So, assuming I go for a tubeless tyre (if I can find one), then rim tape / valves are the order for the day.....does anyone know a tyre (assuming I'll need a "29'er" tyre) that meets the above criteria?
If I go ghetto (rim strips) I am assuming 700c / 29'er are the same? Is it only the width that changes? Do you have any tyre recommendations that are thin enough, puncture resistant with a very light tread?
Apols for long post, it seems a case of non standard standards for everything to do with bikes at the moment and it's taking me while to get my head around it.....
