I recently bought a Maxxis DHR2 2.3 for the rear of my Dialled Alpine to replaced a knackered HR 2.35. First ride at BPW and I was really impressed, loads of grip and good braking control. On the last run of the day I destroyed the front 2.35 Minion DHF so need to replace that now.

I've got a few ideas in mind and wondered what you guys would pick as the best option as I can't decide.

a) Get a new 2.3 Minion DHF for the front. I liked the DHF, predictable and grippy or
b) Get another 2.3 DHR2 and put that on the front or
c) Move the current DHR2 to the front and get something faster rolling now the trails are beginning to dry out a bit (if so, what?)
d) something else?

thanks

If the DHR2 is a 3C one put it on the front and get a dual or single (harder) compound for the back. If not put a DHR2 or DHF 3C on the front (I like how well the DHR2 brakes so that's my preference). Or if you're brave or rarely ride natural dirt then you could go with a semi-slick like a Minion SS out back.

Thanks, it's not a 3C on the back so will look at getting one of those.

They're great tyres! I two matching wheelsets which my full-sus and hardtail share with Shorty 3C and DHR2 3C on the front wheels and DHR2 dual and Minion SS dual on the rear wheels, so I can go with whatever best suits the conditions. Missed the window of dry trails a couple of weeks ago so I've yet to test the Minion SS but it looks like it'll be good!

If you are predominantly trail centres, then you can get away with a semi slick on the back, Minion SS is a very good option. If you are riding muddy/wet trails a lot, would keep the DHR2 on the back and fit a DHF to the front.
