Went for a spin around Grizedale today, things were going well until we descended down the Park Plantation bridleway, when I had a couple of pings and the hiss of doom. My WTB Vigilante Light/High Grip are dead with a side wall tear. What tyre to replace? Are the Tough/High Grip as heavy as reviews say? I'm a bit out of touch with respect tyres.

Current is 29x2.6 and I think I'd keep the same width up front. Thanks in advance.

Specialized Purgatory in a grid casing and T7 softer rubber. 2.6" and cheap.

tough/grippy is a beast of a tyre, they're chunkier than a lot of dh tyres. I really like maxxis doubledown as a tough-ish-but-not-downhill carcass, or the older schwalbe supergravity. The new conti "somethingtal" tyres seem pretty tough for their weight too though I've not done enough proper hammer on those yet.
