Looking to buy a set of 'road' tyres for my hardtail MTB to ride on the road. Any recommendations? Thanks

I'm loving a set of Schwalbe Supermotos that I picked up second hand off here..

Huge balloon tyres, still yer mtb sized 2.35 but with a slick tread pattern.. If you're used to riding on the road with knobblies, putting these on will feel like you don't even need to pedal any more, even uphill.. With the added bonus over narrow road style tyres that you still get all the lovely cushioning effect.. perfect for negotiating our much loved potholed roads

I think the current version of the Supermoto is called a Big Apple

Bigger is better.. just my twopence worth 🙂

Schwalbe kojaks if you want a combination of fast, light and comfortable.

City Jets are good.
I used to use the 1.5s, but I think they also do 1.8s which might be worth a look.

I have race king supersonics on my work bike. Tried many others nothing comes close to these. Super fast and light, however I'm tempted to try big apple just out of curiosity

Scwalbe land cruisers are good and excellent vfm if you also want to nip down the occasional towpath.

I've got 1.95's on my commuter mtb, superfast on the road and can take a bit of canal tow path as well.

Kojaks for me- light and (claimed to be) puncture resistant. Supermotos are fab but if you want to go fast kojaks are better.

Nearest I've been to becoming a roadie, don't let all that chunkiness fool you, they're quick and puncture resistant

Do not use conti city contacts (may be contact 2's now), they're too narrow for any speed, and will leave you looking like a cheap stripper with your gravel rashed thigh and arse cheek poking through the slashed lycra of your undershorts.

Continental double fighters for me. I use them on-road and off-road when it stops raining for long enough to warrant switching tyres. Cheap as chips and fast rolling compared to my knoblies.

Ages ago I bought some wtb nanoraptors I never really liked them on my mountain bike off road . but they are ace on my commuter fast and grippy and can cope with a fair weather diversion off road.

Schwalbe Marathon Supremes are very good indeed. Expensive though, especially if you go for the Eveolution Line folding ones. If you're not spending that much, I'd not bother with the wire bead ones.

Panaracer Pasela are another very good option - nice and light, reasonably puncture resistant, and roll really well.
