Hi guys
Ok another tyre thread I know, but...
I need some new tyres but only have a low budget. I have narrowed it down to:-
Conti Barons (new but wired and not black chilli) £20 each
Maxxis Minions (new but wired also and single ply) £20 each
or
Schwalbe Hans Dampf - second hand but nearly new - £50 for the pair
I have tubeless ready rims (Easton Haven) so would like to utilise them as I bought some sealent too.
General Calderdale riding with occasional trail centres
Cheers!!
Find another tenner and get some Specialized Butcher Controls? The cheaper Barons aren't great and the Minions are a bit skinny. Hans Dampfs good if the front one is a Trailstar compound but will wear faster than the Butchers.
Keep saying this but I am a convert...
On-one chunky monkey or smorgasbord, great performing great value tyres
Rule out the non-chili Baron, they're made of old leather or something.
Hans Dampfs are alright. I'm with chiefgrooveguru though, or maybe a butcher and a purgatory if you want it a little faster. Not as tough as the minions you were considering though.
Specialized purgatory control £30 each tubeless ready 2bliss

I'm a convert too - I have them on three of my bikes.
Ive just jumped ship from Conti Rubber queens BC to Hans damfs and prefer the Damfs
bontrager SE4 team issue are pretty good and only £30 a pop.

I have a smog on the front and it's genuinely awesome.
Think the chunky monkeys have sold out...not good!
Spesh. Best value tyres about.
I've had damf 's for ages and luv em, they run slightly better if the back one is slightly worn so I just buy one ever now and again and swap them round
Just replaced spesh clutch with conti barons love them and 32quid a pair lbs
