Hi,
What tyre pressures should I run for my 2.25" front tyre and 2.2" rear (both tubeless Vittoria Barros) on my 100mm single suspension 29¨ XC bike? I am mostly riding hard dry surfaces, plus some slightly more gravelly fire roads. Quite a bit of fast climbing but nothing overly technical. I weigh about 68kg, the bike is about 12kg, plus kit and water. I am looking for speed over grip 🙂
Thanks!
Similar set up on one of my bikes and 25psi front and a bit higher at the rear seems good.
I have about 24psi front and 26psi rear on my HT and I weigh a bit more than you, but my bike is lighter.
I'm currently about 77kg, on my hardtail I ran 24psi front, 26psi rear. That was on rocky terrain.
Somewhere around that would be a starting point, fine tune to suit your riding style and terrain.
78kg and 20psi tubeless both ends.
Speed over grip?
30 psi or above.
If tubeless, around 25psi.
If not tubeless, go tubeless.
rider weight in lbs /7 for front
rider weight in lbs /7 +(2) for rear
I weigh about 85 and run 28 front and 30 rear.
There's no golden rule for this, but there is a range. Outside of plus tyres I'd say it's between 20 and 30.
The narrower your tyre, the higher the pressure required. You might want to go up or down from there depending on your weight, preferred riding and ground conditions.
I'm 95kilos but due to local conditions I run 20 psi for grip and compliance on wet limestone and roots, with a tyre insert in the rear for extra insurance. At BPW, that goes up to 25 because the hits and G-outs are bigger than those found in my trail riding.
Amazed you all recommend so low - 20-30 for normal trail riding, sure, but based on non technical plus fire roads and valuing speed I'd say over 40 psi. I did struggle to maintain control in a deep rut on the Dyfi at 50psi once, but I'm guessing OP would put that in the technical category.
(Personally I have run as low as 10 in the winter but that was for super techy steep slop with no rocks or hard cornering)
You've not heard of the low pressure rolling resistance revolution?
Haven't been on this forum in like 10 minutes so I'm probably at least 3 revolutions out of date. In fact the only revolving thing I'm aware of is my flat rear tyre.
Very similar bike setup but I weigh 88kgs, running 23/26psi mainly on fast 25 mile routes.
Hi guys
Some excellent settings above
This is something i am always exprimenting with on my 29+
I am currently on 25.2 psi on the front
And 28 on the rear
Only for 1 week duration and on the same trails
That way I get an accurate reading of where I’m at on my re search into this

Are you really running 25/28 psi on a 29+?
They are meant to be run a lot, lot lower! I run mine at about 13.5 rear and 12.5 front.
Rode 30 miles on it today. Ride was a mix of muddy/loamy singletrack, gravel tracks, a couple of DH(ish) tracks and some road.
They still roll surprisingly well on road at low pressures, and running them at a higher psi negates all the off-road benefits of plus tyres.
Hi Ajontom hell yes I sure am at this current time,it’s the highest Ive set the tyres at thus far
All helthy experimentation which I really love to do
I might not go much higher though I must confess lol
I might go back to my usual 15.2 front and 17.2 rear again
Ah, ok 🙂 what tyres are you running? Because I'd still class 15/17 as quite high psi. Though obs it depends on terrain and tyres. I did try pressures up in the high teens when I first bought my Krampus, but anything over 14/15 felt weird.
11 front, 12 rear on my rigid 29+
Hi again
I run the wtb ranger on my rig and she is a beast IMO with these tyres on
Try and run the tyres in the dry on same loop (Strava)when I have been monitoring the pressures to ensure accurate results 👍
100kg here.
26-30psi front
30-34psi rear
Wide rims and 2.3 / 2.2 tyres on fs
