I have a 7mm tubeless tyre cut leak that just won't seal up, I'm planning to remove the tyre, clean thoroughly and the add a patch from the inside of the tyre. Can you use standard glue and patch from a puncture repair kit on the inside of the tyre ? I believe the standard patching glue is rubber vulcanising glue, so guessing it should be fine ?
thanks
p.s tire a tubless plug and no joy.
At 7mm I'd bang a mushroom patch in it.
You can, but Tip Top do special blue cement for this purpose and blue patches. I've used them successfully. The patches are less stretchy than normal ones.
Mushroom plug from the inside is the best way to go. Can be bought in packs from ebay
Thanks all.... STW great advice as usual.
Quick question, are the mushrooms self adhesive or so you need some glue?
You need glue.
I bought a big tub of blue stuff off Ebay.
Should last forever.
I'm opting for a standard insert plug trimmed down on both sides and glued from the inside with the Blue Cement and a rubber patch.
Just don’t Google mushroom plug at work.
This thread was a couple of days too late for me. Had a small split in the tyre after a ride on Sunday, too big for the Stans Race to seal it, luckily I was home by the time the tyre started to deflate significantly. Used a piece of an old inner tube and some patch repair glue on the inside of the tyre and so far it seems to have worked ok.
Would the latex affect the glue over time?
The Tip Top Blue Cement products look good, thanks for the tip guys, will get some for any future repairs.
I’ve used standard patches and glue to great effect. The tyre needs to be completely clean first though.
Jim the Bike Guy reckons the ammonia in the sealant will degrade your glue, so like @reeksy said, thoroughly clean the inside of the tyre. FYI, his fix was Gorilla Tape on the inside, superglue in the hole, fit the tyre and inflate it, more superglue in the hole.
Cheers @rhayter I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes. I did clean that section of the tyre as much as I could so hopefully the patch will remain in place.
I just patch holes using standard REMA Tip top patches on the inside of the tyre, so far they have held up ok. Never bothered with their blue tyre specific cement.
I used one of these mushroom patches recently with super glue. All good so far after 200km.

That depends on your sealant. The only time I tried superglue it was far too brittle and just cracked and opened again.
