I've got a Schwalbe Fat Albert (steel bead) on my back wheel, and it isn't sitting centrally on the rim, which means that it rubs the mech at least once per rotation whenever it's on the granny ring. Has anyone got any ideas on how to fix it, barring redishing the wheel?
I don't particularly want to lob the tyre, as it's been used on about 10 rides, so it's near enough as new. The wheel is true, so I can rule that out, and the rim is an EN521. The tyre misses the mech at very low pressures, but as you put more air in, it starts rubbing. The bead appears to be seating as well as it can - I've tried soapy water on the bead and inflating to 60psi with the compressor then letting air back out ot make sure that everything as as seated as it can be.
Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm absolutely fed up with Schwalbe tyres. I've used them for a while on both road and mountain bike, and found them to be very good, but these alberts have been rubbish. The front one went in the bin after about 5 rides when the bead stretched so much that it couldn't be seated on the rim, and Schwalbe don't seem to be interested in replying to emails.
There should be a line on the side of the tyre above the bead that you can trace around to ensure its fully into the bead - it sounds to me like it is not
If it's not seated try spraying a little silicon oil or simlar and then pump up helps it seat properly, got a few tyres that are not keen on seating but this method works for me.
I has a nobby nick that had a fault in the carcass and a big "lump" sticking out to one side - could be that (if properly seated as they said)
Take the tyre off & get it nice & warm
Use lots of hot soapy water all around the rim when you put it back on & blow it up again
Saying that, I had a High Roller with a similar problem that was down to a faulty carcass

Your grievance is with the shop you bought the tyre from, not Schwalbe. can't believe TJ missed that chance to quote consumer law.
have you tried running it the opposite way round? 😆
seriously, put it on the front before you wear a hole in it and fit a sensible sized rear tyre.
I presume that it's tubeless and not some cock up with an inner tube? I caught someone the other day that had fitted a tube and screwed the valve collar all the way in before fitting the tyre. Tube was stopping bead get to right place to seat properly.
It isn't tubeless, but the tyres been on and off enough times for me to know that it's not a cock up with the tube. I've tried soapy water on the bead and blowing them up hard, blowing them up soft then squidging them about etc.
The tyre is seating perfectly as far as I can tell - the rim grip strip is in the same position all the way around (within +-1mm by eye), but it's not straight. I'm sure the bead on this one has stretched as well, as both tyres were very hard work to get on, but this one is now as loose as a Panaracer and can be pushed on and off the rim very easily by hand.
I've turned the tyre round, and it's still wobbly, but it's not catching the front mech. Hopefully I'll get a chance to wear the tread a bit before I bin it!
As for my contract being with the shop and not with Schwalbe, that's true. They should still answer emails, even if it's to say "We made a naff batch a while ago" or "Not our job, speak to the retailer".
