Hi all

As spring is on it's way (fingers crossed!) I would like some new tyres got a bit of abrasion going down the side walls and general wear and tear of a years riding.

Currently riding a Commencal Meta AM 4.2, Flow Mk3s, Minion DHR II (2.3"), High Roller II (2.4"). I like this combo but would like something a bit faster rolling out back if poss.

My riding tends to be at Cannock Chase, Sherwood Pines, Wakerley Woods and some of my local trails around the woods with a little bit of bridleway on my ride to work. There will be a few other trips to Wales, Lakes, Peaks and Surrey.

I had been thinking about either sticking with same old same old or switching to Magic Mary and Ardent Race combo. I am open to changing widths and would love advise about the various compounds.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks Rich

I go from DHR2 to Ardent in the summer. Have also then put the DHR2 on the front in the past too which is pretty good and relatively quick rolling as a front tyre.

I really like the semislicks now, they're so much faster than say an ardent but don't really give away a huge amount of grip except in a totally straight line- and if you can get them leaned over there's more grip than an ardent. But that inconsistency does make them harder to trust. I think in theory there's a middle ground between the DHR2 and the SS but I've stopped looking for it.

Maxxis Aggressor 2.3 out back with a 2.4 DHR2 up front and they are well matched. Personally I think the Aggressor as a rear tyre is great for pretty much everything apart from claggy mud and slop. Has the Minion side knobs with a smaller centre tread. rolls pretty quick, loads of grip, predictable slide when pushed and wears quite well. Only downside is the DD version shows the threads in the side walls quite a bit. I've moved to the 2.5 version, but that is still on the parts shelf as plenty of life in the 2.3 yet

Had the Aggressor on all year and ridden in The Lakes, Wales The Peak District, Scotland, Shropshire, been to Spain and more. Can't see past it at the minute tbh, but that's a personal thing.

Riding buddy swears by the HR/Ardent combo, another the DHF/DHR2 combo.

Minion DHR II & Minion SS get my vote. Or  Spech butcher & Slaughter as in me opinion you be a bit more for your money.

For winter (mostly trail centres) I’ve been running dhf 2.5 3c Exo on the front and a dhr2 2.3 3c Exo on the back. I’ve got an aggressor that I ran lastbuearbuntil about October - I’m planning to swap thatbin for the dhr2 hats on the back and leave the dhf on up front. Should speed the rolling up a bit but still have good grip hopefully.

If you want Schwalbe could you do a magic Mary up front and Nobby Nic at the back?
