They say the first step to curing a problem is to admit you have one. So yep, I've got a tyre problem.

Just had a sort out and threw some worn out and old ones away, but I've still got quite a few.

The problem is I keep buying them as spares when I see a good deal, but I forget what I already have.

So I did a spreadsheet 😁

3 different categories - on bikes (or on spare wheels); new spares; useable used spares.

Columns for name/manufacturer, diameter, width, tubeless/tubed, wear % (if used), and how many.

The grand total came to 72 😆

As I said, I think I've got a problem!

Anyone else nearly as bad? (or worse - give me hope!)

72 is a lot! Won't the tires eventually degrade? Probably over the course of many many years , but the ones you throw away plus the ones you no longer need will surely counteract the savings from deals.

No I am a tyreaholic, with probably about 20. You sir do not have an addiction, you are merely deranged.

Nope - got 6 bikes and currently 2 spare tyres - that's only because my Hutchinson Griffus were rubbish in winter, so bought some Schwalbes

I often save tyres if I've changed them (which is rarely) and they have some tread left. Then when I tidy the shed, have a sanity check, realise I'll never use them and chuck them

Start running inserts front and rear.  After installation, the mere sight of a new tyre and the memory of the 4 hours spent sweating, cursing, breaking fingernails, and general despair at life will trigger PTSD and you will run out of the shop in a panic.

If you think of it as 36 pairs, the problem is literally half the size. 😁

Good thinking 😁

72 seems/is a lot but if you break it down...

We do have 11 bikes in the house, so that's 22 on bikes. 2 or 3 sets of spare wheels is another 6

So actually it's only a spare pair per bike (+ a few extra 😉)

I think I may be a tyre-aholic too.  I am not sure how many I have and counting them wouldn’t be a easy as it would mean looking in the loft, sheds, cupboards and gear boxes.

i have some nice tyres stored away but also too many crap ones.

Some of the nice ones (Mezcals and stuff) are still folded in their original packaging.  How long can they stay like that before they start to get damaged?  I guess some shops keep them in stock for quite a while?

I have a lot of spares and thought I had a problem but 72! You could have an extra bike in the garage for the space they must take up 😉

I am actually about to replace a worn out tyre. This is actually an event because I normally get bored with a tyre or decide it’s responsible for my incompetence. This means I have a pile of barely used tyres that I might possibly use again. But 72 …………? You do have a problem

When we moved house a few years ago I had a huge clear out of tyres.

I promised myself that I wouldn't let the collection of part worn tyres get that big again.

I lied to myself.

I just can't stop trying new tyres when they come out and once I find something I like all of my bikes need them, then Mrsstu tries them and all of her bikes need them too.

I'm currently blaming Schwalbe and their radial tyres. 🤔

Bloody hell, that's an expensive hobby. Have you considered power boat racing instead as a way to limit your expenditure?

Recovering tyreaholic.

Sold some of the spares box on, so currently under 20 I reckon. Resisting the lure of radials, when I have plenty of perfectly good tyres in stock already.

One handy trick I can recommend is to buy more wheels, to put some of them on - giving you fewer "spare" tyres and more tyre choice for different trail conditions.

It's a lot cheaper than when I was racing Moto Enduro.

Around £90 a tyres.

Rears lasted one day, fronts two.

I've adopted the Japanese Kaizen approach to bike maintenance, forcing my suppliers taking on the financial and logistical/storage overhead. When i need a new tyre/cassette/chain etc I order it for this-week delivery, and my bike is ready for the weekend. I am able to spend my unencumbered cash reserves on beer.

Only exception is that I do have a winter rear in the shed, and some old 26" winters that will likely never get ridden again....

i am the opposite, other than a set of Continental DH tyres (for alpine holidays), i dont have any spare tyres. They are just too expensive to hoard!

I am really keen to try the Schwalbe radials... but am too tight to spend £140 on two new tyres when my current ones have plenty of life.

My problem is not replacing tyres early enough, to the point that they start to impact on my riding enjoyment.

I know a tyre needs replacing when strangers start commenting on them when I'm out on rides.

And every time I do, I'm gobsmacked by how much of a difference it makes in riding confidence.

You can cure yourself of this problem by fitting Conti Kryptotal DH. They're such a pain in the hole to fit, that you'll never be tempted to swap them on and off.

I too have a collection of tyres. I put some Vigilantes on some new wheels yesterday because I remembered I really liked them. I've now discovered I no longer like them AT ALL.

That's a pity...what size? Vigilante in 2.8 is one of my favourite front tyres, got one on my Stooge and another on my Ragley Blue Pig.

I disagree.

You're a tyre enthusiast with a cycling problem. 👍

I dunno about tyres, but people tell me I have a disc brake addiction.

It's not true, I can stop any time I want.

Haha, I'm running them both ends at the mo and loving them.

If they're 2.5in 29er ones then maybe we can do some swapsies 😃

When we moved house 3 years ago the removal men used a wheelbarrow for my tire stash.

I vowed it would get smaller.

It has stayed about the same size. I should get rid of the one I don't use and haven't for ages. Maybe tomorrow 😄

I have soooo much rubber its like a sexy gimp party at a german fetish club.

It doesn't help that not only am I a tyre whore, I also have all sorts of wheel sizes and like experimenting. Currently awash with 29er, 27.5+ 29+ 27.5x 4.5 26x 4.2 and now 36er tyres. ( I just ordered some more last night as I've got another project I'm working on and want some daft sized tan walls)

It's nearly as bad as my titanium habit and alt-bar addiction.
