Hey
Does anyone on here have said helmet cam? What's your experience of it? Worth the money?
Do they compare well to the Hero HD (same price on CRC).
Cheers all
Mark
I believe i have the said camera although the "Twenty 20" threw me off for a second.
are a couple of youtube examples, quality is never top notch on there.
can send you some raw video files if you want.
its easy to use, goggle mount is good for dh and i've got the vented helmet mount sorted after that first video up above.
I like it.
Cheers Dirtbiker.. The second video is flawless - like you say it hardly moves when you land! Sound quality sounds good too.
The "don't crash" comment made me chuckle - sweet jump too. If the camera can handle the landing here then it should cope with the Spanish rocks!
No need to send the raw file - I'm sure it looks great.. Our internet connection won't cope with you sending it anyway! Thanks for the offer though.
Cheers

I used to have a VIO POV and have just sold that and got a Contour HD but the 720 version the Glentress videos are done using the Contour HD.

Some of the mounting brackets need modifying the vented helmet one has a metal pin that pops out that needs a little work (bit of framesave) to stop it popping out once I'd done that all was well.
The google mount is excellent.
Pleased with it and looking forward to using it a bit more, love the ease of of starting and stopping recording.
The only other thing is the raw videos struggle to run on some computers my netbook for example won't play the raw videos.
I have one too battery life is good well the most i have recorded for is 3 hours non stop, i got a fast 8G memory card to go with it. The vent mount like forge said is crap but can be bodged and also the goggle mout is brill too.
Had to update the firmware to improve the sound and get some extra adjustments.
Its very user friendly even while wearing winter gloves one big slide switch to start and stop recording.
I love it get one from wiggle cheaper than crc for the 720 version.

What is the record time with a 8 gig card and whats
the largest gig card you can put in it.
got the old VHoldr non HD one (vids on my Vimeo page - link in profile)
Its okay
Mounting on anything other than a helmet is an issue. The handlebar mount is crap, they do a mount now that lets you attach to a standard camera triopod mount but anything you can get with that screw on is bulky for frame mounting
Oh and be very careful not to get grit inside the sliding record switch ;(
they dont like that!
Personally the Go Pro would get my vote now purely for the excellent chest mount they do
16gb as for length think it's 1gb per 30mins of hd and 60mins of sd
On the HD settings i use 60mins is approx 3.6gb check here for more info CLICKY
I have used bullet cams of various types over the years for trackdays etc. These recent 'self-contained' cams are getting really good. No wires, no external power, small, no tapes etc etc.
I have had various GoPro versions, and just got the HD. Have to say I think it is brilliant.
I do love some of the features on the Contour - the laser sighting is genius, but from what I have seen the GoPro gives a more 'real' picture - ignore that though - that is very much down to the individual.
The Hero WIDE I had was great in terms of picture, but the biggest leap with the HD version is the in-built lithium battery (which Contour has as well I think) so no more AAA's. Nice range of options for image size as well (frame rate, aspect ratio)
....BUT - best thing about the GoPro - IMO - is the variety of mounting options. Chest mount is great. Roll bar mount gives great shots from the forks or bike frame. Brackets stick to helmets (or car body) and you can build out arms for arty shots. They have sorted out better sound on the HD version as well - not just wind noise.
GoPro came out top in a recent test (but can't remember where!)
I have not uploaded any film from the HD yet (waiting for decent internet connection after moving) and YouTube compresses the vid too much to be representative from the WIDE footage. You can see some on youtube - search for BlackSunFilms or caterhamnut user names. BUT - not HD.
All down to choice - both will give excellent results for sure! Good luck choosing - worth searching online for prices. I got my Hero HD from Jensons Bike shop in the US and saved £80 (incl customs charges) although prices have leveled a bit recently - and also GoPro fittings cost a fortune - but worth it IMO.
Just to add, I have a 32gb SD card in my Hero, so don't need to worry about space and leaving it on. You will get big files though, and as has been mentioned, the file type can be a bugger to work with - although recent programs such as Premiew ELEMENTS cope fine for editing.
GoPro HD will have additional 'packs' to plug into the back - extended battery pack and even a preview screen, so they say.
Sorry - one more point. The menu system on the GoPro is crap, along with the on/off buttons etc. Another area where the Contour is much better - one slide switch that is easy to use with a gloved hand. You do get used to the GoPro, but it is a weakness...
Cheers Guys
Probably a stupid question - but what format are the raw files in? I have a Mac - assume they will play on that??
Wow - Wiggle is significantly cheaper than CRC! I was looking at the 1080 version one as it was only £15 more on CRC. But I might be tempted with the lower res one for that price. Unsurprisingly there aren't any in stock.
The mounting system does look better with Hero - and everything you need is included.... Just looks more bulky!

Unsure on the GOPRO HD I have had two of them and both failed to work.
First one I charged up and started testing functions then it froze
and never worked after that.
The second GOPRO HD first of all started taking pictures when in film mode
Also when it did work in video function in play back it was like a series
of very bad edited video.
Even GOPRO was total crap on returning emails has was fed up of returning the cameras I just wanted to work.
So intresting to see more on this cam, only thing its not water proof.
Very tempted by one of these too - got a GF1 which can do 720p video and a combination of that and one of these could make for a pretty good bikey video I reckon.
shame about the poor service from gopro - touch wood mine have all been fine. Certainly not as 'sleek' as the contour.
Interestingly, you can see both being used on TV now, for example when Ed the presenter had a go at skeleton bob, they used a gopro for the helmet cam shots...
