cheapest magnetic one you can get. IME oil ones overheat and blow up messily, and wind ones are noisy.

Don't spend a lot, you shouldn't be spending long on it.

I have been very pleased with the cycleops fluid 2 I have had for a few years, although it is outside your price range. It is a well built bit of kit. In comparison the Tacx Swing I had before fell apart after a couple of years of use. Also I much prefer the resistance from the fluid trainer. Include a massive fan in your budget too!

It was a Cyclops Fluid 2 that spewed oil all over my hall floor 🙁 The advice about the fan is spot on.

Are either of the budget options available in the UK?

Add a sweat net - I used an old towel until it fell off, into the chain, and wrecked the rear derailleur.

New Tacx Blue Matic or Blue Motion? Comes with software to allow you to use all their filmed HD rides to keep it interesting.

I've got a Minoura V150.
Picked it up in a sale from Evans and came in under your budget.
Not sure on pricing now but think RRP was slightly above that.

Anyway, it's a mag trainer with variable resistance settings and is quiet and easy to use/set-up. Not particularly fancy but does its job very well. Oh and it's adjustable for wheel size too.

Important thing to look for is number of levels of resistance (must be handlebar mounted), weight of flywheel, power handling capability.

Good luck!
