I'm after a direct drive turbo trainer to get some fitness back into my riding. Ideally want to do the likes of zwift etc.

Specifically after a direct drive one that's 'full smart'. I've narrowed it down to either the Elite Turno B+: https://www.tweekscycles.com/bike-accessories/turbo-trainers/elite-turno-b-direct-drive-trainer

or the Elite Real Muin:
http://www.halfords.com/cycling/turbo-trainers/trainers/elite-real-turbo-muin-fully-smart-turbo-trainer

Any others I should consider?

Cheers all!
Stu

If I was buying one now it would be this. In all the comparison tests it seems to be the best of the upper mid range smart trainers. I don't even think the Real Muin is part of Elite's range any more.

What do you mean by "full smart"? If you mean that an app controls feel and resistance then the Turno B+ doesn't do that.

Yeah, ideally so the app feeds back to the trainer. Its not a massive issue if not.

I like the idea of removing the rear wheel and fitting the bike on. The quietness appeals too.

The Direto looks way out of my price range. I was hoping for £400-£500 max.

This was the other option: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/turbo-trainers/trainers/elite-turbo-muin-smart-turbo-trainer

Seems like the cheapest of direct drive turbos. Apart from the app not being able to send info back it seems like a good option no?

I'm drowning in info about these things!

For direct drive and FC-E control, cheapest I think is probably the Tacx Flux at around 600 quid.

Not sure about the halfords one up there. End of line model I think.

Yes DC Rainmaker is the best source for info on these units.

His 2017 winter recoomendations are here https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/10/annual-trainer-recommendations.html

There was a thread about this last week. The Real Muin you have listed was marked as FE-C (fitness equipment- control) so that should work

After semi-contemplating a Tacx 2240 all year, but never going ahead with the buy, I'm now looking at mid-range turbos myself as a maybe impulse buy.

If I don't feel brave enough to buy a Direto (which Halfords were doing for ~£630 including BC discount over the weekend, now not on site), a slightly cheaper option on my shortlist is the https://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/BKOOL/Smart-Pro-2-Turbo-Trainer-with-Floor-Mat/GEVP for £374 including training mat as their Black Friday special. I think I've read that is offers simulation of up to 20% gradients, but double check, in case I've made that bit up.

But part of me thinks forget about a trainer this winter and maybe buy a 4iiii Precision 105 crank power meter from PBK instead, that's on offer at £285

Good resource, cheers uponthedowns/sweaman2.

Looks like a direct drive may be just out of price range
