Hi all
I’ve recently changed my turbo trainer tyre from a cheap outdoor tyre to a much quieter indoor tyre (Tacx).
Although I have made major gains in not annoying the neighbours, I can’t use resistance level 5, and I need to be careful with L4, as the tyre slips considerably.
My trainer isn’t smart (Elite Volaire mag elaso-gel), and the force on the tyre is sprung loaded, so I can’t control it.
Does anyone know of any tips to stop the slipping, I’ve tried cleaning everything with white spirit, lower pressures and roughing up the tyre surface, but nothing seems to work?
Cheers
White spirit is an oil, so not that!
IPA might work.
What tyre pressure are you running, maybe drop it by 10psi.
Most wheel on turbos will slip if you try hard enough, I find mine fine for down to 1min intervals but for standing starts or all out sprints just go out on the road.
I'd use isopropropyl alcohol to clean the tyre then up the pressure rather than reducing it and maybe increase the pressure on the roller to up the friction. Worked for me until I got a wheel-off trainer.
Ah, strange then that the Tacx website advised it, didn’t seem to make it any worse fortunately.
Pressures I’ve tried range from 30-100psi.
By the sounds of things, isopropyl alcohol is the way to go...cheers all
Is your wheel round, or is it a wheel you previously used outside, and is egg shaped from hitting pot holes.
(ie is there uneven pressure on the tyre/turbo, as the wheel turns on the turbo)
