Hi Guys,

I have read up a small bit on turbo trainers and would like to get one to build stamina on. Do not want spend loads (£150max)will be used for 2-3 hours a week. Will be used with my Boardman Hybrid.

try second hand. They tend to be used less than expected as they are without a doubt the most successful time travel machine ever invented. Time just stops when you start riding one.

Just bought one of these for the same purposes as you. Works well, not too noisey.

I got a Cheap one from SJS Cycles off Ebay for (if I remeber rightly) £60 ish Had it for 6 weeks now about 4 hrs a week seems ok for me not the quietest off things but it works for me depends on where you are going to use it I have been relegated to the conservatoy It is loud in there but no one in the house is affected by the noise they can hear it but its not annoying and the neighbours can't hear a thing.

I'd much rather be out on my bike but Mrs College work means I am on Baby sitting duties weekdays

I have used magnetic and fluid trainers. At normal cadence there is not much difference, but I found at a low cadence the magnetic one felt a bit 'choppy' and at a high cadence I could out spin the magnetic one, whereas the fluid one just ramps on the resistance as the cadence increases 😈

No point spending too much on your first one.

hi got a mag one recently; works great. Probably depends on budget, couldn't quite stretch to a fluid one but happy with mag.

Bought mine from SJS Cycles on ebay too - not expensive but great on the odd occassion when stuck in the house. Ideal for clocking on miles pre-event.

They are seriously boring. I only use mine for half hour at a go. On a hardish setting and try to keep speed up and heart rate within the anaerobic bpm.

Think your problem is more that that's a really boring way to use them.

Do some intervals and stuff, mix things up, check out www.thesufferfest.com .

I'm too busy trying not to puke to be bored on the turbo.
