What tubes (price no object) are combine the best properties of low weight and durability?
I have always tended to stock up on Bontrager tubes, as that's what my LBS stocks, and they give them to me at a good price. But I have a suspicion there are better, more weight-conscious options.
There's a thread somewhere below about Tubolito, but they're definitely a price no object option!
I run latex in my weekend bikes as I genuinely notice the ride quality, the tubes seem pretty robust if you install them carefully (don't let them get trapped under bead), and they're obviously pretty light.
That said, I was actually disappointed when replacing stock butyl tubes on my summer bike as Rose had unhelpfully supplied it with superlight Schwalbe butyl tubes, so I didn't save any weight going latex! The Schwalbe tubes didn't puncture noticeably more than any other butyl tube I've used, but weighed 65g each. Also unlike latex tubes they didn't need regular topping up...
I've not tried the schwalbe tubes but the continental supersonics are a smidgen lighter again.
They do need topping up more regularly than normal tubes but a lot less than latex.
Settled on the Michelin equivalent in the end, 75g but I kept ripping the valves off the conti tubes whenever I had to fix a puncture and the Michelin's seem to survive.
Latex is nice for a set of weekend wheels, but is a hassle as they go flat so you can't even store the bike on the floor without risking cracking the tyres if left for too long.
