I am going tubeless on the road bike.
Are any particular valves going to offer me untold advantages or do I just buy the cheapies? Ditto sealant I suppose.

The superstar/wtb alu ones with the big tapered base are really good ime- they're really unchoosy about taping/rim, they seal up better than anything else I've used. And they come in purty colourz.

You want some where you can unscrew and remove the inner core, so that you can inject sealant. Seems obvious, but the Shimano ones I have don't.

I also found that my tubeless valve sealed a lot better with an O-ring on the outside between the rim and the retaining nut.

The black ally ones from CRC are cheap and do the job well. They come in some pretty long lengths if using deep rims.

Ah, those airwaves are the same as the superstar ones I mentioned, good to have more sources

They're the ones ones I could find to work in a 50+ mm rim.

I used a pair of the airwave ones last night, first time I've bought proper tubeless valves instead of cutting them off old tubes! no issues in use and look nice on the black rims being all black. Tyres still have air in so no issues! I bought a pack of replacement cores at the same time for when the originals get gunked up with sealant

Quick question from me - tubeless tyre noob!

If the retaining nut comes loose on these valves could they leak around the valve?

I ask because I have some tubeless tyres that have lost air whilst just sitting in the garage and I can't find any damage. I've pumped them back up and they still seems to be losing air very slowly.

Thanks

^ yes. Squirt some soapy water (1l garden sprayer perhaps) over the tyre & valve to see where it's leaking.

Valves, Stans, always for me after trying cheaper ones that clog up etc.
