I bought some hunt road wheels, secondhand. They have been used with tubes but are taped for tubeless, the existing tape looks no bad, been snagged a bit in one place by a tyre lever but I think they would hold.
However, I've read somewhere that hunt recalled all their old tape, which I think this is as it's yellow and their current tape is black.
The prospect of removing it all, cleaning the residue and re-taping doesnt exactly appeal but I guess I have some lockdown time on my hands.
Plan B is to tape over the top with one wrap of whats there already.
Plan C is to just pop some sealant in and see if they hold air.
What would the good folks of STW do??
Cheers
I'd start with C but be prepared for A.
If you have the new tape, I’d remove the old, not clean the residue and stick the new stuff on.
If I didn’t have tape, I’d fit the tyre and see if it holds.
I would never do your suggested plan B
I would go with C. I have never had an issue due to tape and I have never been especially careful when putting the tape on.
Well I do have shiny new tape direct from hunt but I know I'm not gonna get it on there as neat as it currently is, not that I've ever not had a rim seal due to my sloppy taping stds. Looking like Plan C/A right now. @dhrider - is it sketchy taping over old tape, whats the concern here?
