Recent convert to the ways of the tubeless mountain bike tyre and looking to upgrade my road wheels as soon as I get my funds together (probably Alpha 340's).
I know there's one or two on here who run tubeless on road bikes, so what are the advantages?
And what decent tyres are out there, I'm guessing dedicated tubeless are probably more reliable?
I use Hutch's, apparently there are others but £££.
Ride quality is much better than tubed tires I've ridden, that's the main benefit IMO/E other than weight at the rim with the ALphas (which I run).
I think some have converted std tires, some old threads on that, not always straightforward IIRC, and apparently the beads on the Hutchs are some difference material to stop them stretching. Seems odd to me, it's not like regular tyres blow off at equivalent pressures. The Hutch beads are very tight on alphas and the spoke tension decreases dramatically when you seat them!
I've ridden tubs BTW, these feel as good. Weightweenies forum has quite a lot on this IIRC.
Cheers, may have to pay a visit over there and read up a bit.
I get the impression tubeless is pretty much in it's infancy with road bikes, never see it discussed all that much. Either that or it just hasn't caught on or the advantages aren't deemed significant.
Tubs aren't really worth it for me, if I'm shelling out on a new wheelset then I'd like rims that can be easily ran tubeless if/when a few more options start appearing.
May just do it anyway, can always drop some tubes in if I'm not convinced...
