I just picked up a cheap pair of 819 tubeless rims, and I need new wheels on my commuter so I was going to build them up for that purpose...

However - I don't know of any slick 26" tyres that are 'tubeless' .. so perhaps those of you our there with more tubeless experience than yours truly could advise a good bodge?

thanks

dave

I would worry due to the high pressure required

It's not ideal for the reasons above, Hutchinson used to do a Hutchinson Top Slick UST, don't think they do anymore. You could use something like a Furious Fred UST, but I wouldn't want to run much more than 60psi or so.

Just use a normal slick with tubes.

They will be fine with a bit of sealent in them, Have a look at the notubes website It gives you an idea of what non tubeless tyres are good for conversions

I think the extra expense and effort to go tubeless will be pointles as the only benefit you will get is self-sealing if something goes through the tyre - better spend the cash on some harder wearing commuting tyres with tubes that are more resistant to cuts IMO 🙂

Be careful going over 40psi tubeless in a 2" tyre - it may well just blow off the rim.

A narrower tyre, like a 1.5, will inflate - I bodged an old Spesh Nimbus on a particularly quiet day in the shop once. You should be able to get higher pressures before they blow off - for example, Mavic recommended pressures go up for narrower tyres.

YTou could try some plastic Slime tyre protectors from Halfrauds (or possibly elsewhere) they'll stop probably 90% of puncture.
