I'm building some 35w Hope enduro rims, and want some tubless rim tape & valves that are both strong & reilable what do you guys suggest ?.
I've used various Stans tape and 3M tapes, all have worked well. However PlanetX currently have some for only around £2 a roll in various widths that works perfectly and seems like great value.
The Planet X Jobsworth stuff behaves exactly like Stans but its blue and a fraction of the price and in sensible sizes.
While that's available there's no point mucking about with soggy gaffa tape bodges.
25mm gorilla tape is perfect for the job.
I've used a few tapes and these days, stick to stans or industry nine torch tape. Whatever you buy, make sure it's a few mm wider than the rim so it goes across the rim bed and a midges widge up the sides. Valves are much of a muchness, buy the cheapest universal ones you can get.
i disagree with the above. Dont tape the sides. You only need to tape the holes. Get something suitably wide. Going across the whole rim can cause issues with the tire sealing.
I think gorrila tape is best although im currently using continental stuff.
The valves depend on the rim. The DT swiss ones with the square top only really work on alu rims with a channel otherwise they can spin and leak by the tape. The stans style rubber cones are better imo and the flat oring ones for carbon rims.
Thanks again for all your comments and input, I have gone the Planet X jobsworth route, as its great value.
Thanks again.
Yeah good move. Gorilla tape really is a poor and expensive solution compared to TESA 4289.
And put an airliner in it or procore. Those rims are made of cheese.
Clear gorilla tape is the business. Not the black stuff, it works but goes manky.
Some genius on here- Trailrat maybe- found a source of 25mm clear gorilla tape, branded differently- usually you can only find 50mm clear gorilla and you need to cut it down which is a pain in the cock. Here it is, get some:

Yup, on a welded rim anyway, not all tubeless rims have totally airtight rims, mad as it seems. But yeah on wide rims especially you don't need to tape the bead at all and it's generally better not to.
