Anyone know of any tubeless rim strips (not rim tape) to fit 30mm internal width 27.5 rims?

Had Specialized wheels with their 2bliss rim strips and they were great, much better than rim tape, easy to remove if needing to replace a spoke nipple, no sticky mess left on the rim when removed and they never lifted or leaked, unfortunately they only make them in 31mm width for 27.5 rims otherwise i would have bought some

Please don't recommend rim tape, Ive had stans, Schwalbe, Jobsworth (Planet X) even had Gorilla tape, this time round i want a rim strip

Thanks

This lists 29x31mm?

Is this any use?

Our Traverse carbons have a 30mm internal diameter. I assume that its the 31mm that's fitted. I have some in the spares box at home I could measure but won't be back till next week

Do you reckon 1mm width difference (30 compared to 31) is going to matter in the slightest on something like a rim strip?

Cheers guys, Ive seen the Specialized ones on their website as it was the first place i looked and they have 27.5 x31mm

That's good to know Tracey, i had the 38mm wide Specialized fatty rims so had no idea they may have used 31mm wide strips in their 30mm rims

Andy R, It may do as its a tubeless rim strip so will have to be wide enough to cover the rim bed and stay smooth and flat but not interfere with the tyre bead seating, they aren't that expensive so may buy some and try, worst case i should be able to trim 1mm or so from them easily enough

Anyone else got any other recommendations?

Caffélatex make rim strips. They do a large range on sizes (s/m/l for 650b/29er and s/m/l for b+/fat bike). Solved my issues with road tubeless. Am giving tape one last go on the MTB but if anymore issues will be switching to these strips on all my bikes.

You want a rim tape 1-2 mm wider than the gap between your bead hooks so that it covers the entire rim bed.

So for a 30 mm internal rim, ypud ideally want a 32mm rim tape.

DT make very nice 32mm tape, the Schwalbe tape is made by DT and basically the same stuff but blue.

Plenty of other options out there.

I have used Bontrager tubeless rim strips on nuke proof, dt and Mavic rims.
Never had an issue and they are foolproof.

Cheapo TESA 25mm has always been perfect on 30mm rims for me.

I use the Effetto / CaffeLatex ones on two sets of 29er tyres, they work great for me.

Cheers for the suggestion guys, not interested in rim tape (been there, done that) looking for tubeless rim strips so there is no need to stick anything to the rim

Had a quick look at the CaffeLatex rim strips and the Bontranger ones

CaffeLatex are a bit too expensive for me and the Bontranger seem ok

I think ill give the Specialized 2bliss strips a go as i know they work as i had them before

Cheers for the suggestions though

Please report back about the Specialized 2Bliss Strips escrs.

I had a nightmare retaping my 30mm DT Swiss last night - used normal Gorilla Tape last time but a little too narrow for the rim and it had a slow leak. Clear Gorilla worked well previously (an lighter weight) but didn't survive more than 4-5 tyre changes. Couldn't get normal or clear Gorilla Tape to stick last night even after a good cleaning & scrubbing with isopropyl. Ended up putting down a layer of electrical tape then wall-to-wall normal Gorilla Tape (32mm tape) and a tube is in there now to press it down - worked well on my previous Spank rims when nothing else would stick.

I've thought about rim strips before but always forget to buy them ahead of time and just use whatever tape I have. If the strips work well they seem a good no-hassle solution and easy to change nipples when needed.

I've got the 31mm strips in 30mm roval carbon rims. I assumed that it was what was in them when I got them and it's all I've ever replaced them with.

You can’t have been doing it very well, sorry

Ive been doing it perfectly fine for years, sorry to disappoint you

The reason i want to use rim strips is its easier to replace spokes or nipples with a tubeless rim strip, they leave no sticky mess on the rim when you remove them and they can be reused again and again where as you cant do any of the above with rim tape

But thank you for your input it was very helpful!
