I'm getting a bit fed up with pinch punctures, so am tempted by the way of the goo-filled tyred.

I've presently got 5.1d rims, which I really quite like. Yes, they're soft but it means they bend rather than snap when properely abused, so at least you can ride home (voice of experience)
The DT conversion kit is £35 an end.
Should I use a different (cheaper) conversion kit?

Or just replace with tubeless-ready rims?

just converted mavic xm317 rims with the Stans No Tubes kit (£40 from Merlins). Bit of hard work to be fair but faultless on 3 rides now, worth it imo.

If i had the cash though i reckon i would with hindsight have got tubeless rims, apparently they are a lot easier and you cant beat a product that is actually designed to do the job, but i am happy with my cheap(ish) conversion using Schwalbe tubeless ready tyres.

Is the Hope kit ok on other rims then? It implies its for Stans rims only...

put a wanted ad in the wanted section for DT rim strips, get some valves form JRA and your sorted.

I have run this on 3 sets and they are great and have been faultless.

you will also need some double sided tape as well.

Of all the rims I've converted (xr400, mavic 717, mavic en521) the 5.1ds have worked the best. I think I have a stans strip in mine, not the proper dtswiss one.

Cheers folks.
Anyone know if the Bonty XR4 Team Issue (not TLR) tyres will work tubeless?

the hope kit fits the dt rims perfect. its made for stands but as i said run 2 layers around just to get a better seal.

I've a pair of 5.1's T/L using Stans rimstrips - work well.

Currently have one mounted T/L on a Crest as a front, cracking tyre.

Why buy a kit?

gorilla tape is what enve use and it's cheaper and stronger

I run stans 25mm yellow tape on my DT5.1, works fine though inflating can be a pain (compressors are useful). Have run Kenda Nevs (normal), spesh advantages(normal), Bonty MudX (TR), Nobby Nics (Normal), Racing Ralph (normal) and Racing Ralph Tubless on them and they have all been fine.
