Have just repaired the sidewall of my tyre using a tubeless worm plug thing.
Are they a short term fix or do they last. Just wondering if I should be looking for a tyre or not.
had one in my back tyre for 2 years now
its fine
Yup, last pretty much forever.
I have had them that have been in for quite a while until I got round to a permanent repair with a mushroom plug. I usually repair with the mushroom plug when I get home or if we are away when we get back to the camper. Cheap to buy on ebay and will last the life of the tyre.
Can anyone recommend a kit which would work for both road and MTB (but mostly road, TBH)?
Thanks that's good to know.

Yup. Get Dynaplug
Pretty much last providing you fit them correctly. I trim the bit sticking out down to a couple of mm then cover it in flexible superglue - best done when the wheel is dry. Let that set and it will last the life of the tyre.
Can go wrong with the Dynaplug Racer
I’ve had 2 fail (out of lots) After quite a few months, they were both large (6mm plug) cuts that were a bit of a fight To fix, No fails on the smaller 3.5mm plugs. My learning is if it’s big and a pain don’t be lazy, tyre off on one side and wire mushroom it (they’ve never failed), I’ve now purchased a stans plug , but it’s not even arrived yet.
I found that they outlast the tyre. Used the weldtite kit. Had to use 2 anchovies in one hole on a couple of occasions, but if they work initially then they stay working as long as the tyre stays on the rim. I imagine taking the tyre off and then trying to reseat the bead might cause some issues but the point of them is that you don’t have to do that...
Yup. Get Dynaplug
Just been looking at this but was slightly put off by the expensive, proprietary repair plugs, compared to others (e.g. Decathlon one above, or Lezyne) which just use generic "plugs" instead. Am I overthinking this?
I liked the look of this one, as it happens:

They can fail. They generally don't, though. Still, I like to replace with a car mushroom plug for absolute peace of mind (and neatness, it looks nicer)
I've got two of the genuine innovations kits, basically the same as the decathlon one by the looks of it. One in the road bikes saddle bag, the other in a tool roll for the gravel/MTB's. When on the MTB I've also gos some massive motorcycle/car anchovies and tool which will deal with anything upto and including a sharp stick!
The Dynaplug Racer is a great bit of kit, and worth every penny IF YOU'RE RACING. It's cool watching someone whip it out of their pocket and use it to plug a puncture without even having to get off the bike. For everything else it's massively expensive and I've no problems stopping for 2 minutes to plug the tyre.
The advantage of the Racer is that it gives you two sizes of plug and no faffing about
Dynaplug Racer, soooooo simple and quick! Buy a coloured one ..... easier to find if you drop it in the grass! 🙄
I never used to have problems with anchovies lasting but since I’ve been running foams in the tyre a few anchovies have failed. I presume the foam whacks into the anchovy on the inside and dislodges it.
I've got the Granite one that fits in the bar-end - has a separate reamer and insertion tool and has 2 sizes of anchovies that fit inside - pretty neat. I've got tyres that have had them fitted for 5 years and still holding.
Tracey and NW +1
I've had them last ages, I've also had them fail, I now only use them as a temporary repair until I can get a mushroom plug in, which are much, much better.
Had a Dynaplug happily hold 85psi on my road bike for over a year, tyre didnt lose air any faster than the unplugged one.
It wore down to a tiny nub and you could barely see it but it kept on working
So..... yes, in my experience anyway.
+1 for Dynaplug Racer
I know this was a MTB related question but just in case anyone was interested, the repair on my road tyre caused it to budge out ever so slightly. Eventually this was the spot where my tread wore through, although the tread was pretty worn down already.
I’ll support the Dynaplug recommendation. Yes, the plugs are proprietary but you probably not use more than one per year. It’s hardly bank breaking cost for new ones either.
Anyine tried Dynaplug Air? I like the idea of it, reality often differs though.
What glue are we using to stick a mushroom to the inside of the tyre.
Was with a friend when he had a puncture on his tubeless set up.
He tried a Stan's Dart for the first time but the first one failed, the fabric piece seemed to break off the stem and just fluttered to the ground?
How are they supposed to work, shouldn't the fabric piece get driven into the puncture?
I'll let him beta test the different repair systems while I stick with tubes for now...

I just use standard vulcanising patch glue tbh.
Bugger it, not gonna go for the air, race ordered.
Ian, I've never seen the stans ones, no idea.
I have a big tub of tyre vulcanizing glue from ebay. Had it for a few years.
250ml and cost me £5.
This article just appeared on bikepacking.com, new enough I've not had time to read it - https://bikepacking.com/plan/tubeless-tire-repair-guide/

I found the same. Rubbish. They only work on larger holes I think but the hole I tried to fix was too big for sealant, so the Darts seem a bit pointless because you still need a fix for the medium sized holes.
I’m just sticking to anchovies for the time being.

I use blue rubber cement (Rema brand I think)
3 in my Specailized eliminater, for the past 12 months, no issues
