I've just built a wheel ( next one tomorrow) with new carbon rims from Light Bicycle.
Tubeless or not, that is the question.

Why would anyone not go tubeless on a new wheel build?!? There's literally no reason to run tubes now.... at all. If you try and tell me otherwise, you're either misinformed or simply wrong 😆
Just gone tubeless for first time - one ride ago.
It was fine - just like having tubes...left tyres on too hard though - could have been much less PSI in them.
Didn't puncture (that I know of) - maybe I would have with tubes - who knows...

Tubeless. Mainly for puncture protection. If you can try and use proper stans tape and don't be tempted to bodge it with electrical tape or similar. Most threads about tubeless problems seem to involve bodged tape.

Well, you really need to weigh up the pros and cons... or you could just say "bollocks to that" and go tubeless. You won't regret it.
Not sure how using duck tape/sparky tape is a bodged job .
Stans tape is 'tape' nothing else ,it has no special powers .
Duck and gorilla tape are both a pain in the arse to take off, mind.
Tubeless for me. Yes it's a bit more faff, but it's faff on demand, in the garage with the radio on, whereas tube faff happens halfway down a race stage, in the rain.
Tubeless - if its just for the feeling of satisfaction when you finally get a particularly difficult tyre to seal. One of life's true pleasures.
I desperately want to go tubeless but I've spent about 6 weeks trying to seat a pair of Ardents on new Stans Arches with no joy whatsoever. I usually go out to garage, mess around with tape, sealant, fairy liquid and a compressor for a few hours , get so angry that I want to punch a kitten....and then close the garage door and leave it for a few days. And repeat.
Can't even get the tyres on with a tube in them.

snapped a tyre lever trying to get them on. no chance of all the jiz remaining inside when it was a 2 hands and 2 feet and lots of brute force job to get the bead over.

See, they tell you to go tubeless and now they are starting to discuss the bodges / fixes / faffs.
Just use a tube and if you get a puncture enjoy the five minute rest it gives you while you stick another one in.
With stans rims you mainly just have to get the tyre right into the well in the centre of the rim- they're quite shallow/flat rims so if it's not in the right place, there's not enough slack to get the tyre over the rim. Once you've got the knack it's straightforward (it's kind of the right way to do it with any tyre/rum, it's just that with a lot of rims, especially older/nontubeless rims, it's not necessary)

It was only that combo too that was an issue. Schwalbe on Stans, Schwalbe on Mavic and those same Highrollers on Mavic were all no issue.
Least the snapped tyre lever was one of those freebie ones stuck on the front cover of a magazine.
And a week in Morzine with a big fat zero punctures. Conti tubes ftw.
Downside to tubeless= you allways seem to want to fix even the biggest tear/rip or ****ed up tyre regardless of where you are instead of just plonking a spare innertube in and riding on .
