Hi I have used Joes rim strips to convert some wheels to tubeless one set with 45mm tires one with 50 mm tires I have added 60ml of sealant to each and since done several long rides the problem is over 3/4 days they lose pressure what might i be doing wrong ?
is 60 ml enough ?
thanks.
My experience is that they will slowly lose pressure over a week or so. If I haven't ridden in 2 or 3 days I'll usually give them a squeeze and a top up.
If they're losing air too quick, won't hurt to add a bit more sealant.
Also, it’s tedious but I did find a slow leak at the valve by using a water bowl and slowly checking the whole thing
I've always found tubeless tyres tend to slowly lose pressure when sitting in the garage. But not a significant amount over a day or two.
A good tip is to make sure the area around the valve is fully sealed. Hold the wheel at the opposite end to the valve and swing it up to the sky sideways it so its upside down, the idea is to get the sealant to go onto the rim around the valve rather than just sit in the tyre. Do it quite a few times with plenty of sealant in.
Tubeless tyres all lose pressure over time as do tubed tyres but it does vary even between two tyres of the same model.
Does it look like the tyre is "weeping", especially on the sidewalls? That's the fluid part of the sealant escaping which means the sidewalls are a little porous so add more sealant and you should be fine.
Pump up to the maximum pressure of the tyre/rim combo and use the bowl of water/your bath to check for leaks. Most likely are bubbles from around the valve but that doesn't mean it's the valve just that that's where the air is escaping. If it's bad then retaping is probably the best option but adding more sealant may help as well.
I've had this recently on a bike - same tyre/rim combo front and rear but the rear would lose pressure over about a week. Not completely but it was down to about 10psi. Added another shot of sealant and it's been fine.
