Hi,

I haven't fitted tubeless tyres before and the Mavic instructions are not very clear.

I have a pair of Mavic Crossroc wheels with the Mavic Roam tyres.

The wheels have come with the UST rim strip as an extra package.

The wheels currently have inner tubes fitted, with the usual rim tape.

I have taken the front tyre off, do I remove the usual "normal" rim tape before fitting the UST rim tape?

Do I need to add any sealant ?

Any help appreciated.

Yes, take off the inner tube rim strip, fit the tubeless tape & valve, then refit the tyre with washing up liquid solution to help the bead seat.
You can use them without sealant but you lose the puncture protection.

Thanks for the advice.

I haven't got any sealant, but will get some and then refit tyres.

1) Remove existing rim tape
2) Fit new UST rim tape and fit whatever tyres you have
3) Refit tubes and ride as you would till you get sealant. This will bed the rim tape nicely (might not be required for Mavic rimsthough)
4) When you have sealant, remove tubes, fit UST valves, pour in correct volume of sealant, refit tyre. Job done
5) Go ride tubeless and then ask about pressures

Sorted.

Went for some practical advice at Skyline Cycles ( my local bikeshop). who are always very helpful.

Understand how to do it now, not quite sure that my track pump could have got the volume of air required, but other than that , very easy.
