Im sure its been done to death by others but this set up really has got me stuck.
Specialized Tracer Tubeless CX 38mm tyres onto DT 700c wheels.
Im using a homemade compressor that can easily take about 50 psi (that Ive done so far).
With the valve core removed the compressor gets the tyre to pump up no problem (although it doesnt make the usual cracking sound of things seating into place).
BUT
When I remove the hose to get the core back in the tyres pop off and back into the middle section of the rim.
And obviously the air goes straight out then.
Ive tried keeping the core in and the pressure from the compressor wont get the air in quick enough.
Im using soapy water applied with a hand sprayer.
Does the lack of cracking sound mean its not seated properly?
Should I pump the compressor up to a higher PSI in the hope this makes it crack into place?
Will a higher PSI mean I can keep the core in place?
Any sensible advice (that doesnt involve going back to tubes) much appreciated.

Unusual. Spesh tyres usually seat really easily (have always just used a track pump with the valve core in place). Is the rim tubeless ready?
More tape.... Pack out the dip in the middle of the rim to create a better seal.
Also I actually find it helps to seat cx non tubeless tyres dry. A bit of friction helps keep bead in place when pressure drops as you remove the hose.
I assume you are sticking a finger / thumb over the valve hole after removing the airline? If you are quick you can swap in the core with minimal drop in pressure.

Remove the hose, stick your finger over the hole, then quickly insert the core. You should be able to do this without it unseating. If not, try a bit more air. You can then give the tyre a spin and see if it really is seated all the way round. If not, give it a bit more with a track pump.
Depending on how big your reservoir is, 50psi in it probably isn't getting the tyre much above 20psi. My CX tyres typically take a good 60psi to properly seat, although they are very tight.
