Trying to convert to tubleless using a Stans kit. So......when fitting the new rim tape as supplied the bit where the valve stem goes through the rim.....how does that work then? The rubber is far too bunched up to ever sit under the bead of the rim. Am I missing something here? Tried it on both my current rim and an old mavic rim with the same result. Is it just my rims are too narrow? Any one else had a similar experience?
I´m not sure what you mean, but here is some help

Yeah, not described it very well! In short its like the new rim tape/valve is too wide for the rim. It sits proud of the rim where the valve is and i cant see how it will ever sit right at that point. Its a reasonably old (but not ancient) rim....came of my old 2008 kona. Are modern rims made wider?
I think I had this problem, sounds like the rimstrips your using are too wide for your rims...you may be able to stretch them a bit... Get some soapy water in there and pull the rimstrips around the rims, pay attention to the valve area and pull the rimstrip so it narrows and sits under the bead....i had major nightmares trying to make mine work, the wheel got launched across the carpark at one stage.
Good luck!!

Ah right, I see what you mean. I'll give it another whirl tomorrow night.....I can see many frustrating hours ahead playing with rubber and soapy water!
But not in the enjoyable way! 😆
