Now, it could have been cheap inners that were the issue. Possible too wide tyres. I'm not sure. Had two failures / splits around the Presta valves today. Prompting a long walk home. Now I think it may be due to the force of braking causing the tyre to drag the tube round the rim and the valve pulling from the hole on the rim.
Can I go ghetto tubeless with Highrollers dual ply maxxpros and seal the dtswiss rims?
Or do I need tubeless ready tyres?
Apologies if this has been down before, I'm just a bit backward when it come to the whole tubeless thing.
Cheers
There's only one way to find out, just jive it a go. Almost any tyre can be run tubeless. Search youtube for how to videos. You may need a bottle inflator or compressor to get the beads to seal initially.
If the beads aren't wire then it's normally the case that you tape up the rim to cover the spoke holes and provide enough height for the bead to seat with a pump or compressor.
Need a valve too - there's plenty of stuff on here and other places on how best to do ghetto tubeless
If you google 'ghetto tubeless gorilla tape' there are a lot of resources. All you need is some gorilla tape, sealant and a few old inner tubes (along with a valve core remover to make it easy to get the sealant in - personal preference there as I hate having to reseat the bead)
Also google 9p compressor to see how to make a hillbilly compressor
i used the 9p ghetto compressor to go tubeless last week on my fat bike !!
try this to give you some tips
hs is correct - there are so many possible combinations of tyre & rim (and variations in manufacturing) that it's best just to give it a go -
Try a split tube if you've got old small tubes hanging around, try taping the rim if you've got a roll of Gorilla Tape, try one of the proper kits from Stans/Joes/DTSwiss, try with a floor pump, try with a 9p home-made compressor (there's a thread on here somewhere), try down the garage.
All you have to lose is your patience...
