It is a 2.8 tyre ... which I don’t get on with, so going to a 2.6 ...
I have managed to break the bead( so all air out.... but there is no way I can get a lever in to shirt the tyre...?
I have moved it indoors to try to make more flexible ...
Any suggestions ...

Break the entire bead on both sides then push the bead into the well in the centre of the rim.

It went on so it will come off again, time to perfect your technique! 😀

Taking the gorilla tape off the rim made it much easier.
Only one layer next time

I had to cut a Maxxis Tomahawk of my 35w last week after struggling for one hour. Never had I ever struggled like that to break a bead

I will never have anymore Hope 35w rims, they're shite, made from locally sourced soft cheese and a pain in the arse to remove tyres.
Only product I've not been totally satisfied with from Hope over the past 25 years.

Any suggestion of a better wide rim?

Unfortunately no, I'm no engineer but the ratio of the width to the height of the rim (shallow depth relative to narrower rims) must make them weaker and I suppose the central well maybe to shallow?

I've run them for 15 months now and don't see the need for 35mm 30ish is enough for 2.4/2.5 tyres IMO.

The DT Swiss rims I’ve had have always been good - in 25mm (e1900) or 30mm (XM481). Both have had tyres of varying sizes and brands on with no issues getting in / off / setting up tubeless. Tried Maxxis and Schwalbe tyres from 2.3 up to 2.5wt.

I also had some wtb sti25 rims (only 25mm width) that were also similarly no trouble. Used on one tyres with those tubeless too - again no dramas.

I stopped using Gorilla tape after cutting one tyre off and nearly having to cut another, on Hope rims but not 35's. Never had it happen with proper rim tape. I use Stans Flows now, they work well Maxxis tyres for me.

Kneel down and put the wheel against your knees. Use your knees as a barrier and pull the tyre towards you as hard as you can. It may feel like your going to bend the rim but you won’t, and it should be enough to break the bead.

Also remove the valve core so all air can escape as you do it. Surprising how much gets left with the core in.

I just has this with Mavic 30mm internal rims and Maxxis tyres. If I ever get an issue on the trail I'm leaving the bloody wheels there. No problems with my Hope 35 though.
